Get out the Geritol. The entire month’s look at songs that are fifty years old this year has basically been built around THIS song. You turn on a radio today and you’re probably going to hear this one. It’s the epitome of a “classic rock song,” and it’s completely timeless. And here, directly from 1972, it is.
Take It Easy - Eagles
I had a rough night, and I hate the [bleeping] Eagles, man.
(Dude, The Big Lebowski)
Aw, c’mon, Dude, lighten up!
The first Eagles hit is 50 years old now. There’s a group, “Don Henley and Friends,” out there right now, playing this song every night on a tour that celebrates the 46-year-old Hotel California album.
That’s what good music does, though. We’re standing on a corner at the Standing on the Corner Park in Winslow, Arizona (if you didn’t know, this song is so engrained in popular culture that there is a city park in Winslow built around the reference in this song), young and carefree. And Glenn Frey is still alive, leading the celebration.
We have hopefully learned not to let the sound of our own wheels drive us crazy.
Take It Easy
Written by Glenn Frey and Jackson Browne
Recorded by the Eagles
From Eagles, 1972
(Today’s 1982 song: ‘Shock the Monkey”)

I don't hate the Eagles and I love this song.

Oh, you’ll love this meme on Facebook: “Everybody hates U2, they just said they liked U2 because they thought everybody else did.”
(I don’t hate U2, but I think they are way overrated.)

I always think of Robin Williams impersonating Merman in Good Morning Vietnam, saying she was being used to jam Soviet radar.
