Papaya Pickles again

Philippines
July 21, 2022 3:10am CST
Moms friend gave her half a dozen papaya's last week. Then yesterday she asked from one of the tenants to peel them off. As usual she bought the ingredients needed for another batch of pickles. I have tried the pickles with my fried milkfish, so far it hasn't affected my stomach. It's better home cooked since I know what is inside of it. Has anyone eat pickles before? The only pickles I remember was the one being added to the hamburger.

Hello @sjvg1976 I wonder how that can be home made. Mangoes and lemons can be expensive here. I guess we have abundant papayas here.

I like papaya but I prefer to just eat it when it's ripe or have papaya soup with pork. We have a variety of Chinese pickles made from vegetables or fruits.

We also used to make pickled papaya/atsara... I also prefer that we make our own because some of the pickles bought in stores taste different. Some are too sweet and some are too sour...

@Letranknight2015 Yes, papaya has good amount of fibre and that helps with good bowel health. Mangoes were in plenty here few weeks back. Now the season is almost coming to an end and we don't see them much in the market now. It's another year of wait for mangoes

I miss homemade pickle (atchara). I bought one at the grocery but it was not prepared as we do at home when I was a kid.
