With 90-degree weather all this week in my town this is the perfect time to mention some "chill" summer songs, preferably with one's favorite beverage in hand. em]lol[/em] So, let's see how many of these tunes you recognize... Comments, musings, your own favorites summer songs and trivia welcome... 1. Otis Redding- (Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay -When it's this hot sitting is about all the energy one can muster, so I thought this #1 classic from 1968 fit right into my playlist. Otis's whistling at the end of this song was ad-Libed and left a unique and unforgettable impression on the listener. Sad fact- Otis Redding died in a plane crash on December 10, 1967, a month before this song was released. It was his biggest hit and the first ever posthumous #1 single. 2. Dobie Gray- Drift Away -Whether it's listening to some rock n' roll or drifting away to a place to take your mind off the heat this "cool-feeling" song will provide you with some relief. Yes siree, "gimme the beat boys and free my soul." Fun fact: Gray was also an actor who enjoyed a two-and-a-half year run in the Los Angeles production of the popular musical Hair. 3. Nat King Cole- Those Hazy Lazy Days of Summer -Not much to add here except that I like the lazy part especially when you're sweating even in the shade. This tune was recorded by the artist in 1963 and was a top ten hit. TRIVIA CHALLENGE ***Now for our trivia music challenge for those who like to play along. Let's see how many answers you know. See if you can guess these selections and the bonus... Words in quote marks provide valuable clues! Name today's tune, artist or facts: 1. When it's so hot in "summer" you can't stand it anymore relief finally will come in the form of a "thunderstorm." And this 1968 "rain-titled pop hit" by the singer of "Secret Agent Man, "Poor Side of Town," and "Mountain of Love" definitely does that. The song has a wonderful summer imagery like "Raindrops taping at my window, West wind soft as a sweet dream, Summer's spent dancing in the sand, while listening to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band." This song was an ode to the "summer of love." -Do you know the name of this artist and his summer song? 2. This "80's song" by the band the "Go-Go's" was so popular teens worldwide could roller skate around town with the song on repeat in their Walkman. You might remember the "video" with all the girls in the band "water skiing." A perfect song because who doesn't want to "take one" during the summer. Fun trivia fact: This song was the first-ever cassette single released in the 80's. -Do you know the name of this Go-Go's song? Bonus: Nat King Cole had another very popular earlier "hit in 1951." Nat's daughter "Natlie Cole" did a "posthumous duet with Dad," having her vocals dubbed in with her famous father, making this song a hit for a second time in 1991. -Do you know the name of this song? Hope you don't "forget" this one. Ok, let's "get that recliner" and solve these answers. If you're stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. Or as James Taylor would say "You've Got a Friend" if you need a helping hand. Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! I will return with a new edition soon. Hope you can wait till then, lol. Stay tuned... Source- Wikipedia & songfacts.com

A wonderful vocalist!!! HIs song "Mona Lisa" released in 1950 became his first #1 hit. Do remember that one? Classic! Nat King Cole was the biggest seller for Capitol Records for much of the late '40s and early '50s. With his amazing soothing voice, I can see why. I also enjoy his Christmas Albums too!
