Sharon Sheldon who is the owner of a nine year old Shepherd mix female dog named Arwin who tried to get away from the heat in Youngstown Ohio on Wednesday afternoon had to ask for help from the Youngstown Fire Department to rescue her dog who was trapped underneath the shed of the home of Sharon.
The dog had been trapped underneath the shed for about one hour when the dog cried for help since she could not get out of being trapped underneath the shed.
When Sharon and her 15 year old son went outside of their home to locate their dog, they tried to dig her out of her trap but the soil was too hard for them to get her free.
Sharon's husband did contact 911 to ask for help. The Youngstown Fire Department answered the emergency call to make an effort to rescue the dog who was on her back but alive.
The Youngstown firefighters were able to rescue Arwyn used a 2 and a half jack to lift the floor up from the ground by cutting open the floor inside of the home so that the firefighters could loosen the ground around the head of Arwyn so that they could get Arwyn out from her trap by getting her through the opening of the floor inside of the house to reunite with her owners.
Youngstown Fire Captain Shawn Murray admitted that the rescue of Arwyn was one of the toughest animal rescues his crew has had to deal with.
The Sheldon family are grateful that the firefighters were able to rescue their dog who will be getting a bath very soon since her coat was filled with dirt from head to toe.
One of my concerns having a home that has an opening on the bottom of the building is that dogs will enter into the bottom of the building to seek shelter from the heat and be stuck there.

That is true since it took the firefighters a lot of hard work just to get the dog out by practically having to drill holes on the ground and lift the shed off of the ground.

The dog was indeed trying to get away from the heat in the city. I do not blame the dog since the coat that they were on them can get very hot on them.

Other animals could get stuck under the house too. They should put some chicken wire around or something like that. I'm glad that Arwyn was rescued.
