Hit the Road, an Iranian film featuring another eight-year-old

Last discussion, I wrote about eight-year-old twin sisters who appeared in a French film. Another film featuring an incredible little actor was called ‘Hit the Road’. The blurb for this film says ‘…follows a family on a chaotic and mysterious road trip across the rugged landscape of Iran, a journey shrouded in mystery and filled with evasive behaviour and humour.’ Hit the Road was released in Australia in March of this year (2022). The young boy in the film is Rayan Sarlak and he is eight years old. He appeared younger in the film and was the most precocious, exasperating child you could ever imagine which gives great credit to his acting skills. He was as slippery as an eel and almost drove his parents to despair. He could also dance like there was no tomorrow. For me, the other memorable feature of the film was the harsh landscape, so unlike anything I’ve ever known. One couple we spoke to didn’t like the film because they couldn’t stand the child but that was perhaps a bit harsh. It was hard to work out what actually happened in this film. It seems the older son was trying to get across the border. Towards the end, a small group of families were camped and the young men went off on the back of motor-bikes with hooded riders. And that was about it! The photo is of an origami black swan that children had made during school holiday activities.

These last few years there seems to have been a lot of younger actors making their entrances

I remember Dakota Fanning in I Am Sam, and even Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet. All very talented.

Sounds like an interesting movie. I love the origami too. Cute swans. And it's very Perth!

@JudyEv Yeah now only seeing white ones here in UK. When I used to live there I always thought black as the norm.

Yes, nothing quite says Perth like black swans.

The swan is very cool. I would probably watch the film for the landscape. The movie Babel I think was filmed partly in Morocco, and that was interesting too. That is a good movie, if you get a chance to see it.

Thank you for the review of the film. Were these films subtitled or voice-overs? Love the swan.

They were all subtitled. Black swans are an emblem of our state.

I have not watched the movie - hit the road. But it appears to me that there was no clear-cut story line. Maybe it was an Iranian version of a reality show in a movie format.

The story line wasn't very clear-cut but obviously the young man had to leave his family and get across the border.

It appears that the young actor was also quite talented.

He was indeed. He made me exhausted just watching him.

I have to commend you for seeing positives in films you most likely couldn't understand. I have no such patience. I have tried on several occasions to watch a Chinese fantasy film but it was really hard trying to read the captions so I gave up .... I think it was Chinese but it might have been Korean.

I don't like endings where you still don't know what's going on, like the hooded riders! Maybe this is a first in a series.
