New friends

Japan
July 26, 2022 7:20pm CST
I was out for a walk/bicycle in the evening yesterday, because it was cool. Suddenly, I saw a family of foreigners (to Japan) and they saw me. I know most of the foreigners around here because I teach their kids, so I stopped and we all said hello to each other. They are from India and have worked in Japan for a long time, but their little girl is starting school so they moved to be close to our school. They were a delightful family and since they don't know people here yet and most of my friends have gone back to their home countries for the summer, we decided to get together sometime soon. Their little girl is very charming and intelligent, and when I talked about going to a volcano, she was very excited. She loves rocks and science and so we kept having great conversations. I am looking forward to having them visit my home to see my rock collection and meet my cats, and they will bring the snacks! Perfect for everyone. How do you meet new friends?

That's really nice. The little girl will be thrilled to meet someone who shares her interest and no doubt you would be too. Rocks and science isn't really a common hobby for a little girl.

@petatonicsca I'm sure it will encourage this little girl especially if you keep up contact from time to time.

I hope to encourage more little girls to grow up to be women in science.

@JudyEv We are all going to meet in the park on Monday evening at 6:30, hoping it will be cooler. I'm not yet up for having extra people in my house because we are in the middle of a "wave".

How nice it is! By the way, I also have a few special rocks at home

These days I meet new friends online. I don't have the time to really chat outside of my home or when I visit the work site. Fortunately, a few of the people I met online are close by and I have met some of them in person. There's one person though that I've been meaning to meet but our schedules don't match. I know someday we'll have that. moment.

@petatonicsca depends on one's expectations. I didn't have any when I met them. And I was happy about that. WE still keep in touch and meet each other once in awhile.

That would be fun, but sometimes meeting online friends in person can be a shock or disappointment, and other times an excellent friendship. I've had both happen.

That sounds delightful and glad you met some new friends, I have no place here to meet anyone and keep to myself,

Do you like keeping to yourself? Mostly, I do, but just recently it was too much.

That's great. They might be delighted when you invited their daughter to your home to show her your collection.
