Nightwork is Nora Roberts' latest release and as usual, I buy her books without even looking. This one though, it kind of reminded me of Honest Illusions. It just doesn't have the magic element. Harry Booth was nine years old when his mother was first diagnosed with cancer. With the bills piling up and the small cleaning business that his mom and Aunt had started only making so much, Harry found another way to keep their head and food in their belly. It was only supposed to help support them, but he loved it. The quiet that surrounded him when he was where he wasn't supposed to be. It was his peace. It was what he called his Nightwork. Harry had a code and he stuck to it. When his aunt found out what he was doing, there was nothing she could do but just tell him to stay careful. They were as tight as they could be. After the third time, his mother lost the war, Harry and his aunt made an agreement that they were to meet up once a year. It didn't matter where as they both have wandering feet, they just needed to see each other. Harry took some time to see the world for a bit before settling for a time in New Orleans. He made some friends, honed his craft. In his time there he met another thief, one that would become like a father to him. Sebastian needed Harry's help to pull off a job that he currently couldn't do as he tripped over his dog and landed himself in a cast. The man that he was doing the job for, LaPorte, wasn't the type to suffer excuses so for a man that didn't work with anyone, he needed Harry's help. That one job will set things in motion in Harry's life that he never actually thought would happen. That one job would haunt him for a very long time...until he gets fed up and fights back. LaPorte would take everything from him and now Harry would take everything from him. It may take years but Harry has patience. The question is, if he can pull off the job of his life...will he be able to get his life back? Including the woman he had fallen in love with and somehow miraculously has come back into his life. There is a lot of back story in the first part of this book because she really wants you to get the core of who Harry is. He's not just a thief. He's thief with morals and a code and would never hurt anyone. As you get more involved in it, you start to feel sorry for him and hope that he gets a leg up somewhere because he always seems to be dealt a crap hand. In the end you just feel happy. As usual Nora Roberts gives you a fulfilled Happy ending. I would recommend this book and then go back to her older books and read Honest Illusions lol. *picture from google

She is. I absolutely love her Irish books. Even in her JD Robb series, the main character's lover is Irish and just amazing

@JordanLader .......I can understand that. She is a good writer. I read a few of her books back in the 80s. I don't recall any of her series.

I love to read but haven't read a Nora Roberts book in ages. Seems as if I need to go back and read some of her novels.

@JordanLader I don't know why I stopped reading her books. Guess so many other authors came around these past years and I just forgot about hers.

I've read all of her newer works and have been going back every so often to read some of her older ones. I have them all including Promise Me Tomorrow which isn't even in print anymore. I got lucky lol. I love her JD Robb books

Usually she's easy to find. Libraries usually have her work as well if you don't want to buy it.
