The month is almost over, meaning that the dual time machine look at songs that are 40 and 50 years old is also almost over. I have three excellent (well, I think so) songs left to give you from 1982. Here’s one of them.
#3: Southern Cross - Crosby, Stills, and Nash
DANG but I love this song. Jimmy Buffett loves it, too, as he’s covered it live a number of times. (Any song about a boat is going to be in Buffett’s set list.
)
Stephen Stills took a song from two friends called “Seven League Boots,” which Stills said “drifted around too much,” and turned it into this painful classic about music and sailing being the way to heal after a divorce (“she is all that I have left, and music is her name,” “somebody fine will come along and make me forget about loving you”).
DANG, but I love this song.
Southern Cross
Written by Stephen Stills, Rick Curtis, and Michael Curtis
Recorded by Crosby, Stills, and Nash
From Daylight Again, 1982
(Today’s 1972 song: “Rocket Man”)

Still nope... I was hoping you'd have one I've heard before, just to make you jump with joy!

Fear not, I think you’ll know the one Sunday. You might know today’s 1972 song, too.

It’s just Stephen and Graham. David wasn’t on this session.

One of my favorites. I’ll get it on repeat every now and then.
