Lots of great music came out of 1982. That’s 40 years ago now. Hard to believe, isn’t it? You may have sung along with a number of these tunes and weren’t even born then! I was born, and enjoying this music as it came out. I even saw this guy live. Enjoy this one with me. #2: Steppin’ Out - Joe Jackson No, not the shoeless guy from the 1919 Chicago Black Sox scandal. Not Michael Jackson’s dad, either. I have two songs from Joe Jackson on my 100 favorites list: this one and his 1979 hit “Is She Really Going Out With Him?” This was from an album that sort of built on Jackson’s love of big band (he did entire album of big band standards, Jumpin’ Jive) as he looks at the lifestyle of the night (on side one) and day (on side two…and that is why albums are better ). This was a good-sized hit for Jackson in 1982, and it’s still one of my favorite songs. Steppin’ Out Written by Joe Jackson Recorded by Joe Jackson From Night and Day, 1982 (Today’s 1972 song: “Garden Party”) We are young but getting old before our time:

Got a big book that proves it. Back then, if you listened to the radio for just a few minutes you’d probably hear Michael Jackson or Phil Collins. (Or Lionel Richie. )

@DaddyEvil — don’t let her see that episode of M*A*S*H where Hawkeye defines Frank as “loaded with static.”

@FourWalls Okay... Mostly, my car radio is and was set for static unless someone else changed the channel. Same as now. If Pretty doesn't care, I punch the button that gives quiet static from the speakers. She changes it back when she's tired of hearing static.

I remember one summer night standing at the screen door clinking the ice in my glass while this was playing on the radio... can't remember what was in the glass, rum or vodka, but I always get the same feeling whenever I hear this.

@FourWalls Yes, evoking nostalgia even when it was new.

My brother listened to him a lot when we were teens. Pretty good tune. Hard to believe it is 40.

Well, those 2 tunes "Look Sharp" to me Also my favs! Fun fact: "Steppin' Out" received a Grammy nomination for Record of the Year in 1983 but lost to "Rosanna" by Toto. Those guys had a few "sharp tunes" too!

The last line it's so true similar to Burn's statement we can't help getting old. Nice piece thanks for the information

We can’t help but getting old. Growing UP, however, is optional.
