Fixing the leak and getting a new bathroom

Hubby and I are living in my mom’s old house. Above the kitchen there is a master bathroom. There is an issue with the plumbing because sometimes when we take a shower water leaks from the kitchen ceiling. There is now a big hole in it. And for some reason after we’ve taken a shower, even many hours later, water drips from either the shower head or where the shower hose connects to the thing sticking out from the wall. This shouldn’t be happening. Not to mention that the dripping is resulting in a higher water bill. We have to figure out where the issue is that’s causing the leak and get it fixed. Otherwise it will get even worse. And while we do that my mom also wants to remodel the master bathroom. The paint is chipped in many places. She wants to get rid of all the mirrors there, replace the bathtub, sink, vanity, faucets, shower, and toilet, and get new tiles for the wall and the floor. Hubby and I have to go to some bathroom showrooms and see what’s out there right now so we can figure out what to get. Wonder how much replacing all that will cost, not counting the cost of the labor.

Yes, fixing the leak first

Costs aside (which are probably astronomical right now), getting that bathroom fixed is going to be a great thing for the value of the house, your peace of mind, and your long-term water usage. It may be frustrating/painful to go through now, but once you have a new bathroom all completed it is going to be wonderful.

@lovebuglena A plumbing specialty store should be able to order all that for you, but I also think that Home Depot could do it as well.

@moffittjc I went to Home Depot yesterday and they didn't have that stuff.

I have to pick out the shower stuff for the bathtub. Looking at Grohe. Very frustrating. It's more than just picking a shower with a hose (hose not included) and a big shower head. Also need a tub spout, a wall mount to hold the hose showerhead and a shower arm for the other showerhead. Also need the 3-way diverter, and a pressure valve, both of which require rough-in valves. If I have to buy all that that's way too much stuff. Wonder if Home Depot or Amazon have all that. I wonder though if I were to go to a place that sells bathroom stuff (where you buy tile, vanity, faucets, etc.) if they will be able to order all that for me.

I already have sticker shock thinking about it. I know the cost is going to be massive. I hope you hit some good sales.

@lovebuglena Labor is usually cheep. It's materials that cost so much.

I hope all that stuff won’t come out to many thousands as that’s what the labor will come out to.

Oh this will cost a pretty penny. So sorry to hear of that terrible leak. I hope someone can find the source

We should’ve gotten it taken care of years ago. I guess better late than never. I have a feeling that we wouldn’t be able to fix the leak without demolishing the bathroom, so the remodeling would’ve been inevitable.

@lovebuglena Oh yes that is right Lena I am sure that the whole of it would have to be knocked out to find it.

It's not too good if there is now a hole in the ceiling. Choosing new fittings might be fun.

Trying to find new stuff for the bathroom is stressful.

It will be very expensive. We need to redo the guest bathroom. Good luck finding what you want!

It's not easy to pick stuff. Too many options out there.

The labor cost would be the most expensive cost for sure. But it's something that needs to be done.

Yeah. The bathroom does need to be redone and fixing the leak situation is long overdue.
