Is it Depression or Something Else?

I have supposedly had depression most of my life. In reading more up-to-date information on depression I am finding that many other conditions look like depression. These other conditions are such things as ADHD, Vitamin D Deficiency, Bipolar Disorder, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Lyme Disease, Hypothyroidism, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Autism, or Anemia. All of the above-mentioned conditions have depression, and fatigue, some with sleeping problems, memory problems, etc. in their list of symptoms. All things I suffer from. I do have Hypothyroidism, Vitamin D deficiency, and probably had ADHD although never diagnosed. Hypothyroidism is interesting because I have all the symptoms: weight gain, memory problems, fatigue, and depression. I would really dislike being a doctor and trying to correctly diagnose patients.

Don't talk to me. I am the patient docs hate to know about. Plus I now have alienated a Vet. I'm on a roll!

@celticeagle I haven't had a blood test in over 20 hours. AND it is he----- getting a Vet due to the Pandemic. So I snagged a Vet in my area. My Siamese buddy is quite ill with tooth and gum issues. Vet took kitty to the back to get a blood draw. OH Horrors on the yowl. I didn't recognize the sound. Beau is not vicious. Vet had Beau stretched out like he was a wild critter when he brought him back to me. I said NO. Our next Doc visit will take us twenty minutes or more each way but we are not going back to that creep.

@sallypup .......The tooth and gum issues sound painful. Poor kitty. What a nerd of a vet. Twenty minutes isn't bad.

Finding the right balance of things to help can be a pain, but once you have found a combo that works for you, it can feel so much better. I hope you find that balance soon--

I totally agree. It took a long time and some very awful situations to find the right meds for my bipolar daughter. I am 70 now and really doubt I will find my magical elixir but I am hopeful.

My doctors claim I have hyperthyroidism, but I don't have any of that. Well depression but you wouldn't know because my bad days are far and few in-between.

I was watching this YouTube videos of an interview where one person said, we should never say we are depressed when we haven't been clinically diagnosed to have such depression. Because we never really know what true depression is or what we're going through unless we see a doctor about it.

I have seen doctors and psychiatrists. Been diagnosed. It's finding the meds that help my mood that is the problem.

Have you been to a doctor about your depression. There are meds out there that can work miracles.

Oh, yes. All kinds. Psychiatrists and medical doctors. For many years. Those meds out there that do miracles don't do a thing for me. I have tried so many with little or no positive results.

Has any of your medical providers done any blood tests to rule out or diagnose some of these things? Most of the conditions you mentioned can be quickly diagnosed with a blood test, although some of them would need further testing.

Oh, yes. I have been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and am on medication. Am also on an anti-depressant that doesn't really work that well(Posted just now about that frustration) and am on cholesterol medication as well.

So are you taking a Vitamin D supplement? Maybe you need some B12 as well.

Yes, I take a Vitamin D3 supplement. I have thought of getting a B Complex. Also about getting Royal Jelly.

I wish a professional doctor could help me. I've had a lot of problems finding an anti-depressant that helps. Have seen medical doctors and psychiatrists.
