Bill Maher recently pooh-poohed the foolish praise being given for Earth's population breaking 8-billion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB97iwcm_Qc&ab_channel=RealTimewithBillMaher Does anybody know what the limit is? Bill's saying that--if everybody on Earth lived the lifestyle of the typical American--we'd need FIVE MORE EARTHs full of resources to handle it! A Harvard scientist says the world can 'comfortably' maintain 9- or 10 billion; other sources say NINETY-EIGHT BILLION! What can we do about it? I like the 'law' (I think they had it in Japan) of 'no more than one child per household' (I'd change it a bit ... maybe 'no new children allowed unless the elder generation (the parents' grandparents & -'great grandparents') pass away, and then only if there aren't any other children (parented by your siblings) to take their place.')

That rule was in China as well. And believe me it was only enforced on the poor. Meaning, if you could pay the fine of having a second child then you are good to go. So only the poor were criminalized once again. Same what happened in the 70s in India by putting IUDs in women against their wish. The resources are plenty they are just not equally distributed in my opinion and the major destroyers of Earth’s resources are going about their business without anyone checking them or holding them responsible ( I mean different international companies).

There's not much of a problem with 'not enough to supply people' so much as that 'the people we DO have are destroying the place.'

@mythociate exactly my point. I have seen it with my own eyes. Fertile lands being destroyed all over the world in search for profitable minerals cuz God forbid we feed everyone when we need lithium for our laptop batteries.

Scientists think Earth has a maximum carrying capacity of 9 billion to 10 billion people. We are now 7.8 billion we must find something soon. The one-child policy was in China NOT Japan, from 1980 to 2016. Limit children does not seem the right move, they would prefer to get rid of the elders that only are a cost... may be a deadly virus is the solution.

Or, possibly euthanasia for people once they reach a certain age. I wouldn't LIKE that solution any more than I liked when Chinese officials gave women carrying a second child an abortion... and didn't care if the mother survived or not...

@DaddyEvil I hate the idea of euthanasia for people once they reach a certain age. For the moment the governments seem to try to choose to eliminate people through wars and I also do not like this idea at all.

@LadyDuck I agree, that is also not something I want to happen. There must be a solution, but I have no idea what it would be.
