My state, Odisha is experiencing continuous rainfall since Tuesday night (9th August 22). Small towns, cities and villages close to the rivers and lakes are getting inundated cutting the human off from basic facilities. People are suffering from water borne diseases and can't reach the hospital. Health workers can't reach the patients to treat or provide them with medicine and food. At this junction helicopters and charter planes can help the people who are cut off from the main land and are unsafe. Hope our government realizes this and gets into action as soon as possible to save the people in distress.

Those with power to help on a large scale rarely do so I’m afraid. It’s unacceptable that these people have to suffer when the solution is right there!

That's true and that's the reason so many people get marooned and some even lose their lives.

@aninditasen exactly! And then they blame the deaths on the natural disaster when those people can be saved and furthermore plans should be put in place for an evacuations. The ways our governments fail us on a day to day basis is astonishing!

@Greencindere The government is still blaming nature and claiming such places as unreachable, leaving the people to their fate.

Helping the people would be a good investment for the politicians but they usually consider what's best for their pocket instead of what's best for the people they "serve" in their public office.

Politicians rarely understand this. They need people to vote but are rarely beside them in times of disaster.

@aninditasen Politicians understand it, they just don't care. Once they're in office, any promises made to the people are forgotten and they only care about how much money they can steal from the coffers.

@DaddyEvil You are absolutely right. Our country will one day face the same upheaval as Srilanka. I think it's then these politicians will learn a lesson.

Our politicians get rarely moved by such photos and only react when the media cries out against them.

It's not in our city but a city and nearby villages in Southern Odisha. I think our state government should act fast to save these people from the deluge.

I agree, and I think besides planes and helicopters which are costly to operate, they should also invest in rubberized motor boats and amphibious vehicles like what our military has but could readily be used for HADR ( humanitarian aid and disaster relief) totally agree that vip transport is useless and a waste of people's money

@aninditasen oh I see you have muddy flooding Your country operates Russian Mil mi-26 heavy lift helicopter, heavy lift would be needed if there are plenty of people to be evacuated, perhaps your government is finding it hard to find parts because of the Western sanctions, from what I know India uses a lot of Russian military equipment. Maybe government should consider American or Western made.

Rubber boats will get stuck in the sticky mud below. The best is air lifting now which our state government rarely does.
