An unexpectedly fun game

A few days ago the girls and I were out for a hill walk. Although we all wanted to make it to the top of the hill, Little One was complaining about the steep bits. So to take her mind off it she decided to try to guess what vegetables I had bought for dinner. This turned out to be more fun than expected, so then it expanded into a general ‘guess the fruits and vegetables’ game. One of us would think of a fruit or vegetable, then the others would ask questions which could be answered ‘yes’ or ‘no’. For example if someone thought of ‘aubergine’ then we could ask ‘Is it a fruit?’ (yes) ‘Is it treated as a fruit?’ (no, normally eaten as a vegetable) ‘Is it something we eat often?, is it something we like?, is it something Little One likes? (that generally narrowed things down quite a bit!), is it something we grow at home?, is it something that grows in this country?, is it green?’ etc, you get the idea. We played it on the walk up, and we played it on the walk back down, and in the car driving back, and over dinner, and the next day in the car when we had a much longer drive. And we still hadn’t been through everything. I was surprised at what a simple and fun game this turned out to be and we all laughed more than we had in a while! That does sound like fun for you and the girls. Did you get your hubby involved in the game, too?

I live alone generally , but l can say the vegetables in your picture appear to be string beans.

The ones at the front of the picture are broad beans in fact.

I guess it is! Just a specialised version. Funnily enough that's not I game I have ever played so I suppose that's why I didn't think of it that way.

Those very simple games are still the best. I remember I did something similar with my niece when she was still a young girl.
