This story is set in Yorkshire in 1904. When Norland trained children`s nurse, Ruby May , gets a new job with the England family, she does not know what she has let herself in for. The four children that she is paid to look after are lovely, but the adults prove to be rather more difficult. The life of a children`s nurse or Nanny could often be difficult because she was not one of the family, but she could not mix with the servants. Ruby had taken the place of the last nanny who had been elderly and she died one night in the bed where Ruby was expected to sleep, the children found her in the morning. As the story continues , we realise that all is not well in the England household , even Ruby has her own secrets from her own past.

An interesting book. In many ancient and rich households life was far to be perfect and not only in England. There were many secrets.
