It is my first time to have a credit card given by bank after opening an account with them. At first , i was excited that I'll finally have my own. It has no yearly fee. But the nterest kind of worry me. In not sure if paying the whole amount before the due date means it will not have nterest as I have read on people's comments But if that is true then i may use it. Or else , i do have enough money to pay cash anyway. I don't see the point on using it when I have enough cash. And I don't plan to buy expensive gadgets or appliances. I just usually purchase groceries and eat out and buy some basic items like clothes. Do you love using one . Is it helpful to you.

It is very helpful to me. I figure I can pay back the next month and I always do unless I die God forbid. but even if I do, no one is responsible but me.

I never recommend carrying a balance. Credit cards do offer certain purchasing protections that cash or debit cards don't. So, there's that to consider. But paying interest is a no-no. I use a Discover card which pays me cash back rewards of 1%-5%, and I use it for that reason, and pay it off each month and never pay a dime in interest but DO get paid for the purchases I would have made anyway. I don't even use the card for emergencies. That's what an emergency fund in a savings account is for. I may use the card for the transaction. But the funds are paid immediately back from the emergency fund, and then I get to work on restoring the emergency fund.

Yes that's one thing i should consider the purchasing protection. But still have to learn how to avoid being scammed when using credit card . Some people were getting charged for purchases they didn't do Anyway I'm wondering when i should use it. When buying groceries or when eating out. I worry that they can read the cvv at the back. I learned that credit cards don't have pin code. 1 to 5% cash rewards is quite nice. Sadly mine doesn't have that. It is not hard to get this or get approved for this card though. I just opened a savings account on them and i was asked if i want to apply for one and got approved without much question.

@porwest do you swipe the card yourself when paying. Or do they walk away with your card to shipped it like when you b pay in a restaurant. What if they copy the cvv number and card number

@hotsummer Most of the transactions are swiped transactions. But yes, in a restaurant a lot of the time they have access to the whole card. Cards can be compromised. Sure. But it is important to keep a close monitor on activity and dispute any charges as soon as possible. Anyone can steal money from any source, so keeping tabs on things is really important.

@hotsummer Then, there's no big incentive to use one. The only benefit is you don't need to carry a lot of cash with you.
