There is a possibility of 30% increase in our country considered one of the highest in the world in electricity cost. i talked about this before about electricity. But then i have not considered before if turning off refrigerator like 6 his daily. Would that help. Or maybe a few days off like two days a week. Though i have read online it may even cost more electricity to do so. Not unless if i'll turn it of like for one month. Do you think it's a good idea.

Our government is publishing a list of tips to reduce electricity consumption, because we depend on Russia and we must reduce now. Those are some of the things they suggest - Reduce the temperature of your heating from 22º to 20º (this allow to reduce the cost of heating of 10%) - Rise the temperature of the refrigerator from 5º to 7º DO NOT turn it off - Turn off the air conditioning, use fans - Wait to use your washing machine when you have a full load - Wash at a temperature of 30º - Only use LED bulbs and turn off the lights when you get out of a room. We will have more tips in the coming days.

Yes better to keep the rref always on.. i noticed the lowest setting on my ref which is 1 in which the temperature really low. The setting is from 1 to 5,. there is no auto defrost on my old ref. Thick ice forms around the metal of the freezer in less than a week. I manually defrost it.

@LadyDuck i don't have thermometer for the ref to check the temperature or how cold it is. I don't have any idea how cold it is inside

@hotsummer I keep my refrigerator on 5, it auto defrosts so this is not something I need to do. I will keep the freezer on -18 instead of -20, this is what they are asking us to do.

I changed to LED most of our bulbs. We don't use the electric iron anymore, anything that emits heat consumes more electric power. I am thinking of replacing our decades old refrigerator because it costs more in power. I don't go for turning it off often.

I thought of replacing it also. But I noticed the refrigerators today are not made of strong materials. They seem that the door and other external parts can easily get dents when it get hit or gets slammed worth a bit forced. They are much lighter. They have too much cheap and thin plastic materials inside. Otters have like glass door. Seems better but glass can easily break Unlike the old ones. They are more heavy and the outside are strong. On the inside some plastic and metal also.

@florelway yes it looks that they will not last long. . My old ref is more than 20 years, though there is some minor damage on the inside like snall broken parts . But still just minor , i can still use it without problem.

@hotsummer I agree with you on this. I know somebody here bought a very expensive ref, very popular brand, it's inverter but she complained that it's defective. Looks like the ones sold now are. disposable.

Don't use the oven or microwave much as they consume electricity. Try to reduce the use of AC as it consumes lots of electricity and most importantly, use the appliance when they are required to be used. Like, try to sit in one room rather than sitting in separate rooms and using lights and fans in both rooms.

Indeed sharing is economical than using fans and ac in every room

The electric appliances in my family are air conditioners and induction cookers. We try to turn on the air conditioners as little as possible, but the induction cookers are used for cookin

If we use the induction cooker, given the watts electricity bills would shoot up

@hotsummer Yes, the air conditioner consumes a lot of electricity. We will turn on the air conditioner in the hottest summer. In other times, we do not use air conditioning. In our city, it is two months when it is hot in summer, and it is cool in other times. It is especially cold in winter

A rule of thumb is to set your ac high, or heater so it doesn't run as much. If you turn off something like that, you might save a little while it's off, but it works harder using more power when you turn it on. Look at your home, and think about what you can and can't live without. If you can do without something, that'll save you some power.

Yes its hard without refrigerator. I am considering using the air con less. But if costs too much to use my old ref, then i might be forced to not use it all.

If you want to save electricity, you need to buy a refrigerator with first-class energy efficiency, which is relatively energy-saving.

Try to cut down on AC is one the main cause and don't use vacuum and switch light bulb to LED and you will see the difference.
