Where the Kingfisher Sits

Kingfisher Perch

Well... yes, it is just a big stick poking out of the River Colne, but after speaking to a chap walking his dogs, the other day, it turns out this is where a Kingfisher perches whilst waiting for tasty little fish to swim by. Did not see one using it, that day, but I did see a Kingfisher whizz by, as well as an Emperor Dragonfly hawking for smaller wing insects to lunch on. The place is fairly easy to find, so I will be staking it out and keeping watch, with a camera, for the little, elusive feathered fisherman. Hopefully this will be a stick with a tale to tell.

I've seen them zipping by, but it would be great to see one at rest for a moment

I hope you can see the Kingfisher, those are beautiful birds. I enjoy looking at the dragonflies turning over our pond. When I discovered that they laid their eggs there, I never emptied the pond again.

I got some photos of Emperor Dragonflies laying eggs, a couple of years back. There is also a website to report sightings of UK Dragonflies, so I post what I've seen and a couple of photos as well

I am planning what I need to bring with me, a stool is a must, a flask of tea and a sarnie. Also a couple of cameras, just in case. I do like Dragonflies, so graceful

That does look exactly the kind of stick a kingfisher would like : )

@Ronrybs I've seen them a couple of times, on perches just like that! They are much smaller than you expect, I think the bright colour makes them seem bigger. Hope you see one!

I knew they liked to perch, but hadn't thought about it.

I remember trying to take a photo of a kingfisher once. Mostly I only managed a blur or the tail end disappearing out of the photo. I hope you have better luck.

I have seen them whizzing past, but never managed to get a photo. With a bit of luck, I may fix that

They are so nippy, you have to be quick, so I am hoping to snap one on that branch.
