Medications

I told folks that I went on a trip at the end of July. It was lovely, but I did have to come home eventually. When I got home, I discovered that one of my little fridges had stopped working and long enough before that everything was room temperature. I didn't really get upset about most stuff. I mean, it is just stuff after all. However, I have a medication that has to be kept refrigerated. Now, my geek is also pretty smart about medical stuff, so I wrote her about the medicine, if she thought it wasn't safe. She said she keeps hers - same medicine - on a shelf. Then I reminded her that I was taking it in the liquid form. She said to dispose of it - I was already prepared to do so, but I did go a day without the medication. It wasn't going to kill me to not take it. The other one was the important one and that one didn't matter. Now, it doesn't really matter if this med isn't kept cold for a day or so, what it does is mold. If it wasn't obvious that the fridge had been off for at least a week, but could've been even longer, I might've tested it. Everything, including ice packs, were room temperature. However... yeah... not bothering. Was watching a video and it reminded me about this medication... Love you guys!

I don’t take any liquid medicine so I hope I don’t have to worry about mold

You probably are, I take liquids because the pills have corn starch in them and I'm extremely sensitive to corn protein.

@RubyHawk corn is not uncommon allergy, but my reaction to corn protein is quite severe.

@ElicBxn I don’t believe I’m allergic to cornstarch. I eat cornflakes.

Yeah, having a fridge go out is tough. Been there, done that.

@LadyDuck You are way more observant that I am, but I can't say that it stopping working while I was out of town was inattention, I'd've noticed it before too long.

@ElicBxn I am glad that I immediately noticed that there was a problem. The bottom part of the refrigerator was a freezer and it was the first to go. I only had a container of ice cream inside, I noticed it was "too soft". We immediately went online to order a new one.

I like to keep my fridge on "vacation" mode... but today the power was out for maybe a minute and I had to reset the fridge, as well as reset the microwave, stove and clock radio.

Vacation mode? Mine had to have a ice maker installed and still had little dials to control the temp. My microwave is behind solid doors and I've gotten so used to stove lights not working, I don't bother with it. My first stove in the house had a clock that worked but needed an army it seemed to set it. The new stoves I got after that got the mother boards destroyed (thank you cats) so the clocks - and the oven - didn't work. I got a stove off Freecycle and after it was installed, the clock couldn't be set, it buzzed all the time. In fact, before I got this new one my guy friend started to set the clock. My wife and I both tried to stop him... fortunately we had a small power failure and it put a stop to the buzzing.

@ElicBxn Gee, what fun! It takes several attempts to reset the stove clock, but it eventually complies.

Better to be safe than sorry in that case.

I'm glad you can do without it until you can get more. There's no reason to take a chance when you don't have to.

Oh, I got it about a day after I got home, but I did miss a couple of doses, but these are for pain, not for like blood sugar - it wasn't going to kill me to miss doses, it just was probably less comfortable.
