By popular demand (thanks @xander6464 ) I bring you 2022's Fair Follies. It's no secret I love county fairs. Not to be confused with the congested State Fair - no, I much prefer the smaller little county fairs that happen in the summer. I managed to get to 4 of the surrounding county fairs, which is doing pretty good, but less than I usually go to. Seems like there is always a check list of things "seen at a county fair" and it's always seemed to me like a person could create a bingo game of things observed at a fair. Stuff like: *Person juggling 2 or more food items *Kid(s) getting pulled in a wagon *Dog or other small animal in a stroller *Kid showing off their blue (or otherwise colored) tongue from eating some odd fair food * Teen in an outfit they likely weren't allowed to leave home wearing * Someone with a table full of prizes from bingo * A band / karaoke singers * Old timers reminiscing * Gardening experts The local fair had a band I like to go listen to so I was happy it worked out I could go see them play. Momma and I played bingo - and she won a box of popcorn :-) I enjoyed the antique tractors at one of the fairs and the car show at another one Seeing people's exhibited arts and crafts is always rewarding but I don't enter anymore after having to wait in line for ages to pick my stuff back up at the end of the fair. Do you like fairs? Photo: Mine

Pretty and I used to go to several of the fairs in the small towns around our city. I don't remember why we stopped going. Do you usually see lamb burgers being cooked and served at the ones in your area? Those were sooo good!

@FayeHazel Thanks. I hope so, too, but Covid will need to stop before we'll go out into the public like that. Oh, bison burgers are delicious, too! Yeah, I guess it is regional. I never really thought about that before.

Aw I hope you both get the chance to go in the future. Sometimes they can be a hassle to get to / find parking all that good stuff. Oh wow, no, must be a regional thing - lamb burger. I imagine it would be good. Sometimes we see Gyro stands, or (in this area) "beef" sandwich is the thing, it's like a shaved beef. A few hours away from here it's a barbeque (hamburger/Manwich) . Seems like each area has it's own thing. Where I grew up you'd see Bison burger occasionally.

@DaddyEvil Ah. I sure hope Covid goes away completely, but... we're still stuck with it alas. Just got my 3rd booster couple days ago. Oh yeah - it's sort of interesting. I noticed it when we moved here. That's only a couple of hours apart. BBQ vs. "Beef" Seems like Iowa has the pork tenderloin, and SD "chislic" (deep fried steak)

They are called 'agricultural shows' here or 'shows' for short. They're great fun and there is usually a number of (horse) events in a central oval. And often classes for different domestic livestock.

@FayeHazel Our shows started about a month ago. The Royal Show is on now. That's a big deal and my nephew has entered his goats. He usually does very well with them.

@JudyEv Oh awesome, and well wishes to your nephew. What is it season wise there right now?

Oh cool! yeah that sounds similar. Here a lot of the livestock is shown by youth/young adults, there's a couple of clubs for farm kids - and usually at least one opportunity for adults to show animals. I remember the goat show being interesting . When is Agricultural Show season there? Your summer? Harvest time?

When I was younger fairs were fun, nowadays I can't work up the energy to go to one. Pretty sure the fairs over here are much smaller affairs then you would see!

Can't say I blame you. Seems like the older I get the less patience I have for the logistics of things. , getting there, parking, walking, walking back, buying admission, etc... it's draining. What kinds of things are at your fairs?

@FayeHazel They are more for kids with rides and sweets for sale. Another good reason not to go!
