In case you didn’t notice, I took yesterday off. It sort of morphed into taking today off, too. Unintentional, I was just busy watching hurricane coverage. I still am (you can’t believe how those palm trees are bending over in Key West, and Mallory Square is flooded ), but I thought I should at least wave to everyone. ::waving:: I went for a lovely walk yesterday in a local park. I saw some Orthodox Jews performing tashlikh, which is a Rosh Hashanah tradition of symbolically throwing your sins into the water to get rid of them. That has a nice symbolism for Christians, too. Micah 7:19 says, “ He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” The photo attached is of the ducks in Brown Park. They love to hang out by the bridge, because they know someone will come by with bird seed for them. I expect no pity or sympathy, but I had to buy new jeans. My old ones are way too baggy now. I’m watching the end of the Cardinals/Brewers game. The Cardinals can win the NL central with a win tonight. The Cubs (who I’ve rooted for when they acted like they wanted to compete) have guaranteed themselves third place in the NL central, while the Reds and Pirates chase each other in the race to 100 losses and last place. Oh, what has become of the Big Red Machine of my youth. Also in baseball, Aaron Judge is getting walked so much lately that I’d hate to be his Fitbit. He had four walks tonight. I don’t know why pitchers don’t want to pitch to a guy with 60 home runs. Seriously! How else can you cement your place in history than to give up a big home run? I personally remember Jack Billingham because he was a pitcher for the Big Red Machine in the 70s. Everybody else remembers him because he gave up Hank Aaron’s 714th home run. Ditto Al Downing of the Dodgers, who gave up #715 to Aaron. Oh, well. The Cards have clinched with their victory over the Brewers. Sorry, Uke (Bob Uecker is the Brewers’ radio announcer). I’ll be looking for a new countdown theme. Meanwhile, y’all have a great evening! And do remember those folks in Florida. They’ve been through this a million times, but I don’t think it ever gets easier to endure a hurricane.

We are hoping that the hurricane with keep the way they are predicting and we won't have to deal with it. Although that sounds horrible because it means my fellow Floridans will have to deal with it. I was really hoping it would just fizzle out in the water before it hit land.

I smelled Charley in this. Less than two days ago they were talking a “Big Bend” landfall. Now it’s aiming for Venice (where I lived for six months).

@FourWalls They closed the schools in Panama city yesterday. I wonder how they feel now that they're won't be any damage up here.

The poor folks in Florida could always move. They might enjoy a nice tornado once in a while instead.

You get “me days” because of sports, so it is beneficial in some way to you.

I badly need some new jeans. The ones I wear to the rides are threatening to slip right off. I'm too scared to put my phone in my pocket.

@FourWalls The trouble is, as soon as we go back to our 'real' home, half the exercise will stop. Maybe we'll have to get a dog to walk.

Love the picture. Did you see the waves at the Southernmost Point? The waves were breaking over the buoy. Brave people got soaking wet to have their pictures taken in front of the landmark. I'm worried about Lou. Told her she should drive northwest; but they are staying put in Orlando.

My uncle lives near Orlando, too. And Jeff Moffitt here is up in Gainesville, plus a couple in Daytona Beach. I have been in four hurricanes (counting Ike’s remnants), and that’s eight too many for my tastes.

@LindaOHio — I have a friend who was in Florida on vacation when all this started. She’s still at Disney World and said things are okay there.

Hanging out with ducks isn’t all it’s quacked up to be. Actually, we both visited feathered friends on Monday, which is for the birds! Okay, I’ll stop the bad puns. I’ve been watching the coverage of the hurricane all day. The live cam in Key West stayed up all night (or all that I watched), and it was scary (and I’m 1200 miles away!). The sunset from Key West tonight was spectacular.

That is such a pretty picture of the ducks. This is a bad hurricane season, I hope that the people living in the areas that will feel the effects of these storms, remain safe. It must get tiresome having storm after storm after storm.
