Today's shopping in the rain.

Today me and my Mum went shopping. Mum came with me today because she wanted to get some presents for her grandsons (my nephews) Charlie and Noah. I looked at my weather app and it said cloudy all day, and 7% chance of rain then 8% chance of rain and at 1:00pm 10% chance of rain. But then at 2:00pm and 3:00pm it said 73% chance of rain and then at 4:00pm and 5:00pm it said 86% chance of rain. So we wore our matching macs! We set off at about 10:30am and it was cloudy but not raining. We walked on the top path round Stowe Pool again. Mum was using her walker. She does walk quicker with her walker than she did with her walking stick, but still a lot slower than me! We didn't sit down on any benches because it was too cold to sit around. The first thing we did when we got into town was we went to the toilet by the Cathedral. Next we went to Superdrug where Mum got 2 more packs of knee highs because I could only get one last week. Then we went to Holland and Barrett where we got some sugar free chocolate chip cookies for my Mum, 2 packets of sugar free strawberry and cream flavoured sweets, one for me and one for my Mum, 2 packets of sugar free liquorice, one for me and one for my Mum, a packet of strawberry meringue for my step-dad, a bottle of mango passion flavoured Kombucha for me and some Bombay mix also for me. I wanted to get some soy chunks too but they didn't have any. It came to just over £17, and Mum said she'd pay me back for hers and my step-dads when we got home. When we got outside it was starting to rain so we put our hoods up. At first it was only spotting but it soon started coming down heavier. And it was only 12:00 midday, so it was early! I mentioned to my Mum that the benches that used to be outside Holland and Barrett had gone to make way for seating for the new Starbucks coffee shop! The nerve! Next door to the new Starbucks there is also a new clothes shop. After that we went to the card factory and Mum got some money wallets for the twins. My Mum will put £100 in each of them. They have "To a wonderful Grandson" on the front of them. They are both the same. Then we went to The Entertainer toy shop to look for presents for the boys. We looked all down the first isle where the most appropriate toys are but Mum couldn't see anything she wanted to get. We went down the second isle which had dolls and little Silvian families or whatever they're called. Obviously not suitable for Charlie and Noah! Then Mum found some rubber worm things! She decided to get 2 of those, one in red, one in blue. (I think Charlie likes red and Noah likes blue.) I said, you're not going to just get them, are you? She said,of course not! She said why don't we just get some Lego? So we went back to the Lego and eventually Mum chose 2 sporty Lego cars, again one in red and one in blue. Next we went to WH Smith where I got a Doctor Who Chronicles magazine about the year 2007. Then we went to Greggs where Mum got herself a sandwich and we went and sat on a bench under the cover but further down because the benches nearer to were occupied. We ate our sandwiches and I drank some of my Kombucha. After that we went to Rileys and got some strawberries, 6 pears, a cucumber, some lettuce and some sugar free Maria biscuits for my Mum. Then we went to No.24 Market Street for a cappuccino which was very nice. I was already soaking wet from the rain. We had no free biscuits this time which was disappointing! Next we went to Iceland (the shop not the country!) and got some sea bass for me (3 packs for £10 which is basically buy 2 get 1 free!) and some pork loins for my Mum. After that we went to B&M to look for a mirror for the bathroom. Our old mirror got broken when my step-dad left the window open when it was windy and the wind blew the blind and it knocked the mirror off the window ledge and it broke. While we were looking for a mirror I saw some little heaters. Mine broke at the end of last winter when the switches sort of sank into the casing! There were some really small white ones for £15 or some slightly larger grey ones for £25. My Mum said, do you want to take one? I said I haven't got enough money on me at the moment. She said, well you can always pay me back. So I took one of the grey heaters. Then I said, what did we really come in for - ah, yes! A mirror. Eventually we found some nice mirrors with a marble base for £7 so we got one of those too. When we got outside it was coming down in stair rods. My Mum decided to wait under shelter a bit till it eased off a bit. I said, if you want to wait till it goes over you'll be waiting all day because it's supposed to last all day. I took a photo of the weather (see picture above) and I also filmed a 2 minute video of it which I put up on YouTube when I got home! Eventually we set off again and we went back to the toilet by the Cathedral. Then we set off for home and the wind and the rain was horrendous! We went up the top path round Stowe Pool again and half way round the wind started blowing me home! There was a bloke by Stowe Pool who was fishing! I said to my Mum, when she'd caught up with me again, I can't believe some people, there's a guy there who's decided to go fishing in the rain! I had the box with my little heater in on top of my trolley and the cardboard box was getting soaked. It was coated cardboard but it was still managing to soak through. At one point the wind blew the box onto the path! I said to my Mum, I hope this things OK when I get it home! At last we got home and I put my mac on a hook on the back of my bedroom door to dry. My gloves were soaking and I put them on the radiator to dry. My socks and my shoes were also soaked through! I got myself a cup of coffee then I got my dinner which was a chicken and bacon pasta bake which I did in the microwave. Later I tried to attach my heater to its base. I hate things where you have to assemble them yourself! After ages of struggling with screws that wouldn't go in I realised I'd got it back to front and the cable should have gone the other side where it clips in. When we'd got it the right way round the screws fitted and I could tighten them! Then I tested it out and it works fine! Phew! How was your day?

I've learnt a new phrase - rain coming down in stair rods!! Usually it comes down like cats and dogs.

@sharonelton @JudyEv My favourite is (in Welsh) 'Mae'n bwrw hen wragedd a fynn!' which means 'It's raining old women and sticks!'

@Fleura That's pretty cute too. I guess every language has its own phrases for heavy rain.

Yes, you should have seen it! Can't really see it on the photo. Sometimes we say it's raining cats and dogs too.

Thank you very much. It was a wash out! (We can laugh about it now, it wasn't funny at the time!) I'm glad we got the heater and mirror anyway. And the boys birthday presents.

@sharonelton I have to laugh at the prospect of there being a 73% chance of rain. We did the heavy rain thing here too, but also the thing where the sun shines blindingly and hotly. I must say that I disapprove of Starbucks, but cathedral toilets can be a godsend.

@sharonelton I emailed a complaint to Starbucks HQ when I was given a paper cup because they were just doing paper cups that day. I told them I prefer big person cups rather than being made to feel that I’m a little boy on a Sunday School picnic to the seaside by being made to drink from a paper cup. Deaf, uncomprehending ears my complaint fell upon.

Yes, that's what my weather app said! Turned out it was actually 100% chance of rain! I don't like the paper cups they give you in Starbucks! The toilets opposite the Cathedral are definitely a godsend!

@xFiacre Wow! Great complaint you made. I like your reason for not liking paper cups! It's a shame they didn't listen to you. It's actually better for the environment to use ceramic mugs rather than using disposable paper cups any way!

We usually say. It’s raining cats and dogs or it’s coming a toad stringer. I don’t know where those sayings came from.

Thank you very much. It wasn't pleasant but we muddled through. I always try to put the comments on. If I see that comments are missing on one of my videos I always go back and put them on again. I don't know why it changes to comments off. It's very frustrating. Sorry about that. If you see that there are no comments on one of my videos, go back later, or then next day, and see if they're back on. I will always make sure they are on eventually.

@RebeccasFarm Yes, it is frustrating. I saw this morning that yesterday's comments were off again so I put them back on. Then, when I'd published this morning's video I checked that the comments were on before I went off to see it on YouTube and share it to twitter. And then when I looked at it on YouTube the comments were off again! So, after I'd shared it to twitter I went to put the comments on again. What's the bet that tomorrow when I look the comments will be off again?

Over the weekend we did have heavy rain and rain from a hurricane. We had power throughout until after the storm left someone ran into a power pole and the power flickered off and on a for a few minutes.

I'm glad I've managed to educate you! We did a lot of shopping in the rain. I sure would have enjoyed it better if it was fine weather. But it's October now and I guess we should expect more bad weather to come. I didn't really have a good weekend unfortunately because after all that shopping in the rain I ended up with an aching ankle so I didn't go to Church on Sunday because of that.
