Back in 2017 Equifax had a data breach with effected 147 million people. Customer's credit cards and debit card information was a part of the breach and also SSN, birth dates, addresses and in some instances even your driver's license numbers were breached as well. Equifax has agreed to pay $425 million to help people affected by the breach.
This breach was one of the largest in history. No, Equifax was not the only one that has been affected by data breaches. One in 1984 at Sears affected 90 million cards. One in 2006 affected 94 million TJX Company customers. In 2009 Heartland Systems had a breach of 160 million. Home Depot had one in 2014 that affected 56 million cards. In 2019 Capitol One had one that affected 106 cardholders.
Equifax is one of three credit bureaus that hold our credit information. The other two are TransUnion and Experian. They may have different records of your credit history.
If you feel you might have been affected here is some further information on the Equifax data breach:
You can call a toll-free number(1-833-759-2982) to see if you have been affected by the breach.

It was suspected when the data breach occurred back in 2017 that my data had been part of that compromised during the breech. Equifax gave me their protection for a year for free in case I had any problems and, after the year was over, told me that if I encountered problems, they would cover the costs of fixing the problem(s).
I've never had any problems, so far.

That's good. I've had some issues but can't really pinpoint that it would be Eauifax's fault.

Thank you for the helpful information. We had a credit breach on one of the agencies several years ago. Someone took out a loan based on our information. It took quite a while to get that problem corrected.

That is scary. We've had someone making small purchases on our accounts over the last few years. Our bank is very good about alerting us and we got them nipped in the bud.
