"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." ~~~~~~~Mahatma Gandhi (Saturday, October 2, 1869 --- Friday, January 30, 1948 --- Aged 78) Very recently, I was inspired by someone...If you're a World Class Master Detective, you might be able to figure out who it was. If you're not a World Class Master Detective, you won't be getting any fun ruining Spoilers from me. But I will give you one hint: It wasn't Mahatma Gandhi...To figure out a fun way to give away money. The premise is basically this: You have a lot of money. In my case, I'm giving myself $100 Billion. It's less than I deserve but you gotta start somewhere. Next, develop a different or unusual way to spread some of it around. This is what I came up with on my first attempt. There will be others because once is not enough. Step #1: We would get a high roller suite and an adequate number of adjoining suites at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Next, we would invite some family and friends, say 10 couples to keep the hypothetical math simple, the actual number would probably be different, maybe more, maybe less, because not everyone is in a relationship and some people can't just go to Vegas for four days at the drop of a hat. Step #2: Now, we have 20 guests in Vegas and we are paying for everything. ((Some of you are saying, "Sir, why do you keep saying 'We?' You don't have anyone, Sir." The answer is: This fantasy was inspired by someone else but it's still mine and I'm not going to be single in it)) and at some predetermined point, everyone would gather in the casino where we would give everyone $10,000. Step #3: For three hours, everyone would gamble, trying to turn the $10,000 into as much as possible or die trying (Financially. With the gifted money. There will be no actual pain or suffering in this exercise. Unless it is consensually requested and agreed upon and that, if it did come to pass, would be a MyLot After Dark only topic). Step #4: At the end of the three hours, everyone gets to keep whatever they win and we will donate an equal amount (Including the original $10,000) to the charity of their choice in their name. Everyone who loses everything will get another $10,000 for themselves plus $10,000 to their charity. So everyone gets at least $10,000 plus 4 days in Vegas, all expenses paid. Whoever makes the most money will get a bonus $1 Million sent to their charity. That's the basic framework. I assume there will be prizes as well for everyone but I haven't worked out those details yet...I'm back to saying "I" because my imaginary girlfriend is currently just supplying ideas that I can't talk about here. One last thing. This is the perfect time to do this. The holidays are coming but are still far enough away. The first big one, Canadian Thanksgiving, is still 8 days away. So a lot of people would have time for this and most of them and their favorite charities could really use some extra money right now. The other one last thing: This is really too good of an idea to stay imaginary. So all I have to do is figure out a way to generate $100 Billion tonight and we can get this started tomorrow. It shouldn't be that difficult. If you have a fun idea for giving money away, put it in the comments.

You took away the fun and excitement of gambling. When you gamble, your brain releases dopamine, the feel-good neurotransmitter that makes you feel excited not only when you win but even if you lose. In your proposal, there are no risks. Where is the adrenaline rush? BTW, you didn't specify who is supposed to have fun, the donor or the recipient?

Your reasoning is just a little flawed. Most people will get a thrill out of this system. The same way they get a thrill out of being on game shows. To hardcore purists, having little risk (They get to keep everything they win so there is a risk in the sense of choosing the right games to play.) might be a factor but not to most people. The idea is for everyone to have fun.

@josie_ Well, dunking people is fun. But so is gambling, even when it's no risk. If someone gives you a lottery ticket, don't you get excited if you win and disappointed if you lose?

@xander6464 Where is the fun in having everyone have fun? Someone always has to pay. Even a bucket dunk, someone gets doused.

What Mahatama Gandhi said was very right. Yes, after a lot of historical research and analysis there have been some decisions and beliefs of Gandhi which don't find favor but overall he did influence the Modern India to a good extent. Coming to raising 100 Billion or near about, I think you would have to make a grand plan, involve a lot of people, some ex prime ministers and presidents. Plus you need to get hold of a Millionaire on Mylot and get a special short term loan for achieving your big goals. Best of luck from my side!

Isn't everyone on MyLot a millionaire? I thought the two MyLot entrance requirements were a Ph.D. and at least $1 Million in net worth.

@josie_ is right, all the fun in gambling is "the risk". You may win but (more often) you can lose everything all the money you are playing. No risks no fun.

@xander6464 I play on my computer sometimes, just for fun no money involved. After a while it's boring.

I don't agree with that at all. People have fun and get thrilled on game shows and there's zero risk in them.

@LadyDuck Risk does produce a lot of adrenaline but it's not the only source.

I'd say improbable to a discouraging degree but not impossible.

@askme123 Well, robbery is one potential avenue available but I would prefer to stick to legal and moral methods. One way of doing it would be inventing a cure for cancer. Or creating a perpetual motion machine ((Some Physicists still say that's impossible but we've already discovered Perpetual Motion in Quantum Systems and that means it's entirely possible up here in the Macro world)). And many others. There are lots of ways it could be done.

Being a donor in all of this gives me such a good feeling. Wish I could do more of it. $100 Billion in one night, huh? Interesting. That might be more exciting than the other.
