As I promised/threatened, there’s something in this countdown of songs with “something” in the title for everyone. So you don’t know the strangely-titled Buffett song? Okay, then let’s move on to a sorta strangely-titled hit for today’s song! #9: Play Something Sweet (Brickyard Blues) - Three Dog Night Ah, that album cover. The album cover for this LP (Hard Labor) was an obvious mock-up of a labor and delivery room (monster feet in the stirrups, the “baby” being a record, etc.) but it had to be edited for the sensitive types. Just goes to show you that people got their panties in a bunch (since, given what happened to Troy Aikman last week, I can’t tell them to take their dresses off ) a long time before the PC police showed up. As for the song, it’s a great Allen Toussaint tune that bears the distinction of being the final song the legendary singer/songwriter ever performed: after a show in Spain, where this was his closing number, he died from a heart attack in his sleep. I’ve done a Toussaint countdown before. This song was on it. Because we all need some great songs that we can sink our teeth in like jello. Play Something Sweet (Brickyard Blues) Written by Allen Toussaint Recorded by Three Dog Night From Hard Labor, 1974 Grin like a monkey:

@FourWalls I don't blame you at all. I was diagnosed with asthma about a year ago... the doctor thinks it's from all the allergies I have. *shrug* Isn't it fun?

@FourWalls One of my most vivid young childhood memories was driving over the bridge to Seaside Heights in my dad's Jeep (with the doors off) and singing "Jeremiah was a bullfrog" at the top of our lungs. That's probably the only song of theirs that I know though.

I love hearing songs I haven’t heard in a long time, especially when everything about it comes back instantaneously.

Probably “Joy to the World,” which was their biggest hit.

I would have thought you’d have been a Three Dog Night fan back in the 70s.
