Would You Eat At A Restaurant with Tasty Food But Poor Service?

There's a new Chinese restaurant near my friend's place. We went there to try it out. We ordered a few dishes. They looked good and were tasty. However, the service was really bad. The servers were quite rude. They really spoiled our mood. Don't think we want to go there again. Other than tasty food, I look for quality of service, hygiene and cleanliness, and reasonable cost in a restaurant. Would you eat at a restaurant with tasty food but poor service?

This was one of the original reasons behind tipping (giving extra money to the service-staff), but it's become such a common custom in America that restaurant-owners actually use it as an excuse for paying their staff so little (because the staff should earn their living mostly in tips, supposedly). But that makes tipping almost 'an American diner's "responsibility."' (although otherwise we'd all probably HAVE TO pay extra to cover the staff's wages)

I've tried not giving any tip at all. For servers I think are really good, in addition to normal tipping, I give them lucky money in red packet during Chinese New year.

Great point American tip program is bs. Everyone needs to call that out. Even had restraunts saying we only pay our people 2. 13 a hour because we expect you to tip them. Then when people do tip them most establishments steal most of the tips and say find new job if you do not like it.

@crossbones27 HK's restaurants also have share tipping program. That's why I give individual servers who have done a great job lucky money during Chinese New Year.

Understand your points. I may consider take away if the food is really delicious.

I personally don't care too much for the service, I just order the food, wait enough time until the food comes and eat it. I don't see any situation where the service gets rude. It can maybe happen if they ask to clean the table before we finish eating, like it can make us hurry up and leave the table. Me and my girlfriend like sitting and eating in a cafe house, drink a shake, eat a salad with chunks of fried cheese or other things like pasta...not something special.

@Beestring In that case, I would go to eat in a cheap food restaurant, that has a warm welcoming service, just take a humus and falafel (fried humus ball), salad and etc...whatever they serve fast and easy, so they don't have to see me for too long. Time is money after all, they want the maximum amount of clients to come and go, with the minimum effort.

What I meant rude was the service staff was blunt when talking to us, and rush us to place the order. He also forgot to serve tea and brought us the chopsticks.

@stringer321 Thank you for your suggestion. Actually, there are many restaurants out there which offer good food and service. The one I mentioned in the post was newly opened. May be their service staff were not well trained.

@Beestring Yes, it is very important because they want a tip so they should have been nice to you and not rude.

The simplest answer for me is no. There was a Mexican restaurant that my wife and I liked a lot. But service sucked, and after three bad experiences in a row we vowed never to go back regardless how good the food was.

@Beestring Service is foremost for me beyond pretty much anything, and if it is lacking, I don't care how cheap or how good the food.

@porwest Other than cleanliness and hygiene, service is important to me. I won't eat at a restaurant with poor service. It'll just spoil my mood.

If it was only rudeness, I just donĀ“t leave a tip. As for cleanness, I cannot eat a food that does not look clean.

@Beestring Exactly. If everything else was good, then I might talk with the manager. If there were other not so good things, I would not go again.

I wouldn't go back if the wait people were rude. If they were just slow, then I might make excuses for them once or twice.

In my opinion, good food is useless but the service is not good. Good service, has the impact that we are well received, even if we eat, we will be voracious especially if the food is good and the service is also good. I hope you have to give criticism for better service in the future.
