Let me see if I can clarify this, since a few people are confused. (Starting with me. ) None of these songs are BY Poison. I don’t care for them. Instead, these are songs that I do like that have the same title as something Poison did. This came from my using a song called “Something to Believe In,” which prompted two comments that referenced the 80s band: one that was sad that I didn’t use the Poison song, and one that was elated that I didn’t use the Poison song. So with that happy thought, here’s a great song that just happens to have the same title as a song by Poison.
#9: I Want Action - Ruby Winters
You’ve probably never heard of Ruby Winters. I have because she was from Louisville. I’ve also heard of her because she worked with Charlie Daniels. Yes, that Charlie Daniels. It seems they were managed by the same person, so the white country-rocker and the black soul singer worked together. In fact, Winters’ first single was written by Daniels!
Her best-known song was “I Will” (NOT the Beatles song), which had been a hit for Bill Dana in the early 60s. But there was this song, which has a very “Motown” feel to it. (As for the Poison song named “I Want Action,” from their first album, I’ve never heard it and I really don’t think I want to.)
Winters passed away in 2016, never having much more than regional success and a place in the hearts of the die-hard 60s soul fans who dug deep.
I Want Action
Written by Andy Badal and Al Elias
Recorded by Ruby Winters
Released as a single, 1967

Because you didn’t do your college internship in the basement of the Country Music Hall of Fame? (That should explain everything you need to know about me.

The 60s had a signature sound, especially in soul music.

It’s always interesting to see where the legends began. Vince bill was once a member of a local band called the Bluegrass Alliance.
