Does Anyone Know?

I recently heard part of a conversation about an Indian billionaire. I wasn't paying much attention to what was being said until l heard this.: " he would probably be the richest man on the planet - except that he gives 65 % of his earnings to charity." I did not catch his name, so l was wondering if any mylotter would have heard about him -- know the name of the person they were talking about. I am interested to learn more about this man. Would you give away 65% of your earnings to charity? How much would you give and what organizations would be your focus? Pixabay image

I think the man could be Azim Premji. In 2013, he agreed to give away at least half of his wealth. In India he topped the Philanthropy List for 2020. Should I earn million of dollars every month I would surely donate at least the half I make to charities. Better to give the money to charities, than to give the money to the Government in taxes.

@LadyDuck. If more people thought more kindly about other people , the world would be a much better place.

Thanks for the information, now that l have a name, l can check it out. Where wealth is concerned , providing myself, family and close friends are comfortable- the rest can go to charity. When we die, everything that we have is left behind anyway.

I think @LadyDuck is right. I too have read about his philanthropy. I like to give and I did that more during the pandemic

I don't know who that person would be - but wow, such generosity he has! 65% is a lot . . . I couldn't do it now. But if I had enough to live as I do now and then some, then sure we would give to charity.

@Kandae11 We hear on the news of how all these super wealthy people spend crazily on their lives of excess. Seriously, better things could be done with that money . . . there are way too many SO in need right now.

If l had it l would do the same too. Can you imagine if billionaires all over the world did that. There would be less starving people, less disease , less homeless, etc. etc.

@much2say Right. We can't take all that wealth with us when we die.

It should be either Ratan Tata or Azim Premji. A hard act to follow but the most rewarding too! I have been giving away to those near and dear who I know are in want.

Yes it is Sir Ratan Tata. I like reading about and hearing of those who share some of their great wealth with the less fortunate among us. Continue to do what you are doing - blessed is the hand that giveth.

The rich industrialists in India gain huge profits. So if they give some part of their earnings to charity they aren't doing any service as they get huge tax benefits for that.

@Kandae11 He is a person who is cheating the Indian people as customers and consumers. Our city electricity is run by his company and they are extracting money from us in an erratic manner by increasing the rates any time they like.

@aninditasen So why does he give back most of his earnings to charity?

It is still taking out of their earnings and thousands will benefit from their charity. I got the name of this person - he is Sir Ratan Tata - a humble person who is known for helping others.

You could be talking about Sir Ratan Tata. He is the most humble person you will ever find on planet. So warm and so humble. Yes he gives most part of his earning in charity. That is why he is may not be on top list of richest people. But what I know is he does lot of charity.

For now I may not be able to donate 65% of my earnings to charity. But I hope someday I can donate 65% or maybe more to charity. Whoever you are referring to, I wish him a long and healthy life.

65% that's getting him poorer. He just only retains 35% of his wealth. He wants to live a pauper's life.
