Getting Ready for Roto-Rooter

No, not the actual service that cleans out your sewers. I turned 40 earlier this year and because my mom, her dad, his sister had colo-rectal cancer that puts me in a higher risk group. So I get to do the screening for the disease earlier than recommended for most folks... Yup. Oh boy, it sounds fun to eat bland boring food that's soft for 2 days, liquid diet for 1 day and then chug down some medicine that will have me running to the bathroom every 2 minutes until the wee hours of the morning, all to have a stranger look up my nether regions with a camera on a tube. I can barely contain my excitement. Yes that was sarcasm. But as unthrilled with this as I am - I wouldn't want to go through what my mom has had to go through. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. So folks, it's important to get your colonoscopy... even if it isn't fun. Graphic : Joke that was going around the internet for awhile, from an actual post. Original poster quite likely meant cologne , which smells nice. :-)

I pray all will go well and no problems found. I never minded the actual colonoscopy, but the prep was awful.

Thank you friend. I'm happy that the procedure itself isn't too bad

@Deepizzaguy Yes, poor man - he did a great job acting in "Black Panther". May he rest in peace.

And how do you know her boyfriend's colon didn't smell "nice" to her? I remember having to go through that procedure... and having them knock me out so they could remove some polyps and do a biopsy... I like the new way of checking for problems, even if it does seem nasty! (Wait until you get to poop into a bottle and send it to a lab through the mail. It's disgusting! I can't imagine the mail carriers enjoy picking it up and handling those packages, either!)

@FayeHazel There's no accounting for taste. Maybe they don't realize what's in the box? It plainly says biological material on the outside of the box, though. I know, right?

Ha ha, well I would sure HOPE she doesn't like THAT smell. Ugh. I hope all went well with your procedures. I actually pleaded for the "kit" but was told no. :/ Actually I wondered the same thing. What do the people who have to pick it up think of it . Ew.

I had my first one done about 3 years ago. The entire experience wasn't as unpleasant as everyone made it out to be. Yes, I had to go to the bathroom every two minutes, but it wasn't like I was running to make it there before exploding. It just felt like I needed to go. Like normal, but only every two minutes instead of every day or so. Hope all works out well for you on yours.

Yeah, actually - that's a very good description. I , too, was expecting to , uh, have "explosion" level antics going on. No - like you say - you do run to the bathroom every 2 minutes, but it's like the usual feeling of needing the bathroom. No exploding nothing. I was thankful. Thanks! I got the all clear. So happy, Praise God

My husband has regular colonoscopies. Unpleasant as they may be, they're better than what might be the alternative, as you so rightly say.

@FayeHazel He is fine thanks but with his genetics they just want to catch any abnormalities early.

I don't think you should undergo colonscopy unless you feel any problem. Take fresh food and you can avoid that.

Ah I wish I didn't have to, but it is advised for people to have one done if they have a family history of problems

I have one on a regular basis due to my Dad's colon cancer he had. I recommend others to do the same.
