Black sand beach

We visited this beach a few months ago where the same color was more blackish. It made the beach interesting. At first appearance, it looks like it's dirty, but as you get on the beach and start enjoying the water and sand, it looks stunning. Have you ever been to a beach with black sand. The picture is my 5 year old daughter playing with the sand!

I prefer beaches with white sand, but in some places where there are active volcanoes the sand is black.

This coast has no active volcanoes. I wonder what caused the black sand.

@LadyDuck looks like there are plenty of ways it happens.

@pitstop Black sands could have formed due to the natural phenomenon of the waves coming and hitting the basaltic rocks.

Perhaps there was a volcano there at one time?

It looks pretty odd really although I've seen black sand beaches before. I prefer white sand.

I also prefer white sand, but this was interesting.
