She should be my music teacher. She is a retired biology teacher who can sight-read jazz music, including the music of John Coltrane. But she has never allowed herself to improvise. She plays the "right notes." Tonight was our second lesson. I brought her the basic chord progression to Miles Davis's "All Blues," from his 1959 album, "Kind of Blue." I wrote it out in musical notation so she could "read" it if she forgot it. We had a great time. I'll attach the song so you can listen to it. Can I help her become an intuitive musician? Can she help me understand jazz music? I think so.

So far so good. I hope we don't get too excited too early and burn out. But so far it's a really good situation.

Is she very strict and refuses to improvise? It is a shame.

No, it's actually the opposite. She is loving the opportunity to escape from "written notes." We did "Drunken Sailor" yesterday and were laughing out loud. No music in front of us.

I am gifted. But I think there's untapped musical potential in a lot of us.

I don't know anything about jazz. Is the music of John Coltrane particularly difficult to read? And if you had to write things out in musical notation especially for her, how do you normally present it?

I normally present it as chords and scales. And I try to explain the "theory" behind it in simple terms. Coltrane is sometimes difficult, and sometimes very straightforward.

Nice song. I have been listening to Christmas music and some shaman and Chinese music for meditation.
