I am heartbroken this morning

The German Christmas market that we've so been looking forward to attending today is cancelled due to the weather.
We'll make the best of it, I suppose. They are selling a limited number of items (the souvenir mugs, some Stollen and Lebkuchen, and some ornaments) at the school this morning, so 2 people from the household have already gone over there to pick up the mugs and possibly some pastries. Perhaps Otto and I will go over there later too.
Otto and I will still have a date tonight and have some German food. It won't be quite what we had in mind, but I hope it will still be nice.

Sometimes you have to just go with the flow. Make the best of a bad situation.

That's pretty much all we can do at this point. I know it was a difficult decision for the school.

@spiderdust I see. We have Christmas markets in every town and every city here in Germany. The big cities have huge Christmas markets.

@thelme55 Yes, this one was capturing some of the atmospheres of the German Christmas markets. I found out that this would have been the school's 10th anniversary of hosting the market.

This one was only for today, so sadly there won't be one this year after all.

Winds been crazy last couple of years. So far here not to bad, but I never seen this place so windy so often. I wonder how much that hurts them, I always find it interesting with old school businesses. Can't just put a robot in that one.

This whole event is a big fundraiser for the German immersion school, so I wonder how much the cancellation will hurt them overall. At least they're still selling items at the school today (and I just heard back from a family member who went over there that it's very crowded there right now) and they did list the websites for all of the vendors who were supposed to be selling their wares at the market so that people can still buy things from them.

@spiderdust What a shame! I am really sorry, you were so excited to go.
At least they could post the list of the vendors, it is a shame also for all those who crafted for Christmas if they cannot sell their items.

No, it's completely canceled for the year. There are too many things that would have to be rescheduled in order to hold the event (such as closing off streets), and there's just not time for them to do that.
Instead, the school sold the items that they had prepared for the market (the souvenir mugs and steins, the Stollen and other cakes, the sausages and sauerkraut, jugs of Kinderpunsch, and the wooden ornaments and arches imported from Germany) at the school itself. They posted a list of the vendors who had planned to have stalls at the market so that people could visit their websites and still purchase items from them.

@LadyDuck I think one of the other reasons why they cannot reschedule the market is because the vendors are already booked for other events.
I think the school actually lost money by cancelling the event because they had to refund the vendors for their stall rentals; they had something on their website about where people could donate funds to offset what they lost.

We w]are having a 'cold wave'--only a high of 82 degrees this afternoon and in the 60s tonight--almost cancelled the beach!
They don't have an 'emergency' date set 'just in case'???????

Sadly, they do not have another date. The event requires closing off roads and hiring security and such, and it's just too late to reschedule all of that again before the end of the month. I know the school only cancelled it because they felt they had no choice.

Yeah, we've been looking forward to it all year. At least we're still able to pick up the mementos. but I was also looking forward to seeing all the German wooden ornaments and decorations. They're often too expensive for me to buy, but they're lovely.
