It didn't last!

The snow I told you all about in my last post didn't last, thankfully. It was all over and done with in about 30 minutes which, to be honest, is about all I expected - despite living in Scotland we really don't get much snow where I live. The reason for that is that we live right on the east coast and the sea, although it may be very cold, keeps the air slightly warmer than even just a couple of miles inland. Another reason is that the prevailing wind in the UK is from the west and by the time any storm front reaches the east coast it's dumped most of its rain and snow on the west so we get off lightly. The only time we get heavy snow is when the wind comes from the north - and that can dump a whole load of snow on eastern Scotland. Thankfully, that doesn't happen often.

Well, that doesn't sound right... You should get lots of snow all the time.

The last time we had any significant snow in my area was about four years ago when the wind did come from the north and downloaded nearly a foot of snow which caused some problems for a couple of days but that kind of thing is very unusual

@Albain I live in southern Missouri, US. We usually get one or two heavy snowfalls each year. Last year we had a foot of snow twice. I just stayed in the house until Mother Nature melted it off for me. (About a week each time.) But snow can stay on the ground here for several weeks at a time. I live almost exactly in the center of the continental US. Far away from any large bodies of water.

We're under a massive system right now, that looks like it will loom over our heads for a couple of days. Its forecasted to bring sleet, rain and heavy wet snow - up to 30 cms by the end of day Sunday. However, by this point in the morning, we should already have a few cms on the ground, but its more like a frozen mist falling. I doubt we'll dodge the bullet - but hope springs eternal.

I sure do hope there won't be any freak northern storms headed your way. I'm lucky in that this small part of Texas is in the desert region where snow is rare.

We only occasionally get a big snow,, we might have a couple of light ones during the winter, and every several years get a big one.
