How frequently do you wash your hands? What about using the vacuum cleaner - daily or weekly? What about dusting and polishing? I ask because one of my wife's sisters seems to have a compulsion to clean, vacuum, polish and tidy almost non-stop! She's been like this for years - can't stand to see a speck of dust or a fingermark on furniture, worksurfaces or any glasswork in her house. She hasn't been diagnosed officially with any kind of psychological condition but the family think it's pretty obvious she's suffering from OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). She can't even leave her house unless all the housework has been done first. She says there's a tiny little voice in the back of her head which tells her that unless she does all the necessary (and unnecessary) cleaning of her house then something bad will happen to a family member. That must be quite a burden to live with.

I wash my hands frequently after I go to the bathroom or after eating a meal for health reasons.

I can't imagine the feeling or not being able to leave my house until all the housework is done

Frequently washing our hands isn't a bad thing. That was one of the precautions we were advised to take during the Covid-19 restrictions and it's a good thing to do frequently anyway since it cuts down the risk of contamination from many viral and bacterial diseases

@RebeccasFarm My wife suffers from that both in her hands and her feet. She needs to moisturise several times throughout the day or she really suffers

That poor lady has a problem. I do a little cleaning every day but not the same thing over and over again.

I too wash my hands and dust my furniture and my maid cleans my house everyday. It's no psychological problem.

Perhaps your maids have a psychological problem?

There is a schedule the maid follows and I see everything around spotlessly clean but no nothing is over done. I do wash hands more often than before the pandemic.

I often wash my hands, ever time I pet a cat I wash my hands, it's not a OCD, but cats use their tongue to wash themselves and they use their tongue EVERYWHERE on their body. I do not see the need to dust and vacuum every day.

This reminds me of the movie As Good As It Gets. One of my brothers came to my house, petted one of the fur kids, washed his hands, petted the fur person, washed his hands and in not too long a time, quit washing his hands cause the kids weren't going anywhere.

Washing hands - often. Before preparing food, before eating, after eating (if there's anything greasy or sticky), after handling any animals or animal-related items (like bird feeders), after the toilet of course, whenever I come home from shops or any other public place. So dozens of times a day. Vacuuming - I hate this so much, it makes me so angry that my partner volunteered to do it years ago. However I'm lucky if he does it once a month and then mainly the carpet in the middle of the room! Other cleaning - well I'm not fond of housework so I try to minimise the dirt in the first place by cleaning it up before it can get spread around! Kitchen gets wiped over after any food prep or clearing up. Bathroom gets wiped around most days, when I'm in there. Kitchen floor gets wiped over at least once a day. Hallway gets swept or cleaned up with a mechanical carpet sweeper before pine needles, leaves, dried mud etc can get tracked to any other part of the house. Other polishing furniture, cleaning windows and the like - maybe once a year.

My husband often says that I have some sort of undiagnosed OCD. I am cleanliness freak and I love to have a clean home. I have a cleaning schedule but I don't get stressed or overworked if I am not able to stick to that schedule. I often take a break from cleaning to enjoy. This clearly sounds like a big stress to live with. She needs help.

I wash my hands and clean my apartment quite frequently but surely not to the extent of that lady. I think she has obsession.
