Well, this restaurant stinks! Oh, wait, I’m home. No wonder the service is bad. Yesterday the governor issued a state of emergency and the masses flocked to the grocery stores. I’m home and stocked (just had a very filling lunch of beef stew with rice), so I’ll sit here and watch warmer climates. Oh, and give you a “cold” song. Here’s today’s tune with “cold” in the title. #7: The Water’s So Cold - Stonewall Jackson Linda? NO. Who’s afraid of dying like Virginia Woolf? (This one line might take longer to explain than the song: there was a play, then a movie, called Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Virginia Woolf was a writer who battled with depression; and, in 1941, she “took a long walk off a short pier” into the River Ouse with a pocket full of rocks to weigh her down.) (Gee, I’m sorry I said that! ) Well, not Harlan Howard, who wrote this deceptively upbeat song about a guy who got turned down by a woman and, in response, decides to kill himself by swimming too far out into the sea. Yes, the humor is there (the guy’s got time to sing this song while he’s out there bobbing around with the sharks, right? ), but it does undercut the savagery of what love will do to people. This is one of the very first albums I clearly remember being dearly in love with from start to finish that wasn’t by Jim Reeves or Roger Miller. The Water’s So Cold Written by Harlan Howard Recorded by Stonewall Jackson From I Love a Song, 1963 I offered my ring:

It’s one of those albums that we had when I was a kid and it’s stuck with me all my life.

You’ve never heard of famous Confederate general Stonewall Jackson?? That’s okay, ‘cause this ain’t him. See you tomorrow, where at least you have heard of the group!

The stores were packed yesterday between the Christmas and storm shoppers. There were some empty shelves. The storm is storming outside and we are safe and warm inside. Take care and stay safe and warm. Thanks for the warning about the song.

I’m nice and warm, too. Even had hot chocolate while watching the weather update. And anything tagged “classic country music” is NOT for you!

@FourWalls It's so windy that it's a little chilly in the house. And the deck boards are popping and booming because of the cold temps. I'm going to have some hot soup.
