Molds season

January 1, 2023 8:20am CST
What do you do to stop molds from coming back during rainy season? Today, I helped my sister out with her problem. She was so desperate to see that all her leather items were covered with white molds. I did some research from the internet and watched some tips from YouTube, too. So after all those treatment, cleaning and storing we've done, I still wonder if that resolve the problem. She likes organic things but she seldom use them. I mean if I can only use them I would at least I can lessen the chance of molds from coming back but that is not the case. She works abroad and I may not be able to maintain the role of maintaining them while she is away. How do you maintain your items especially leather goods?

I think that mold is terrible and in many cases dangerous. Try to keep everything dry.

@Pulling I use electric heaters in some places and dry them before storing them. Our climate is dry and I don´t have too many clothes.

@marguicha Here in the tropics we always have 50+ outside humidity. We use blower to dry them a while back. Thank you and (Feliz año Nuevo) happy new year! I see that you are from Chile and I thought it was good to greet you in your language. I don't speak good, though, I have forgotten a lot of vocabularies already.

Mold is terrible, I lived in a humid place and it was hard to keep things dry. You need to buy a dehumidifier.

@Pulling I know that there is not a lot we can do to stop mold.

Thank you, Anna. Well listening to what my sister is saying while I was helping her, you are right. It is really hard to keep things dry here and she needed to keep the AC running.

If there is a leather cleaning company close to you, you should ask them about a treatment for leather items. In the US, I took a heavy leather coat to a dry cleaner and ask them to treat it for mold. Whatever they used is still working 15 years after they cleaned and treated my leather coat. Good luck!

This will be the last recourse for sure and it's an hour drive.

@Pulling You can search for some solution application online.

I think this is the best thing to do but I still need a long term solution and both are good learning experience, I can say..

There should be spray for this sort of thing. I read about this a while ago, but can't remember where I found the info. Good luck.

I hate anything going mouldy. When I find mould anywhere I spray it with white vinegar because this is supposed to be good for getting rid of it. I would not use this on food because mouldy food should always be thrown away.

I got one distilled and it helped. We applied on cabinet and I don't see any mold spot buildup so far...

When I had a mold problem I bought some spray to use on everything and used it after I first put it out in the sun which is supposed to kill the mold. I think I may still have a problem in that room so I am going to order a mold bomb and try that. It's supposed t kill all the mold. I may have to get a mold remediator to come in.

We got one fogger from amazon and we haven't use it yet. We remedied with distilled vinegar and we are still observing if it is effective. So far we don't see any mold spot buildup.
