Thompson Brook church could be in danger of burning

We’ve just heard that residents are being evacuated from the Thompson Brook area near where we used to live. There is a big bushfire in the area. People from the farms around are being evacuated to Donnybrook. There is a lovely and very old church at Thompson Brook and we organised a concert or two in it when we were running concerts. The church is in a very peaceful area and surrounded by trees. A friend of ours bought the lovely old building when it was decommissioned and has since restored it. It's used for concerts, weddings and small gatherings. There is no power to it so if you want power and/or lights you have to take a generator there. If you search on myLot for ‘Thompson Brook’, you’ll find my other posts about it. The photo is mine of the church.

I remember reading about it a while back, I hope it doesn't get burned up.

It is a really lovely little church and, as you say, really peaceful. We took a lot of gear there when setting up for a concert and we slept there in our bus. Here is part of the inside of the church.

It's bushfire season for us now. We'll be hearing more and more about fires here and there.

Oh is there bushfires happening again in your place? Is it a regular thing that happens in your place or this is just very recent event happening in your place?

@JudyEv I see this is an annual event in your place. But it seems you had the worse one some years ago where the whole place seemed to be on fire. I forgot what year was that.

There are bushfires every summer. Sometimes they would have been near us when we lived in the country but sometimes they weren't.

@rsa101 Yes, a couple of years ago there was a town not too far away that got totally wiped out. The fires seem to get more intense each season.

Uh Oh...I hope it can be salvaged somehow. Those wildfires are merciless it seems.

It would be a great shame if it were burnt.

I remember very well you posting about this former church. I hope that things change, and the fire shifts its pattern where it is headed and that the building is spared.

@JudyEv There is nothing more beautiful than an antique building, it is always so sad when they are lost due to a fire or flood near them, that did not actually begin in the building itself.

Thanks for the wishes. The warning has been downgraded so hopefully it has been brought under control and even more importantly can be kept under control.

To us outsiders it seems as though Australians are under constant threat of massive fires. I guess in reality it's nothing like that but it doesn't make me want to live there! Hope the fire burns out soon and everyone is safe.

Sometimes it seems like that to us too! But in reality the fires affect very few when you consider the total population. However, we do seem to more and more each year and they are more ferocious than they used to be. And, having been caught with their pants down once or twice, so to speak, the authorities are now very quick to order evacuations when perhaps there seems little need.
