The famous writer had such a sad life and died young. He was born in 1809. His mother and father died within a few days of each other although not together at the time. He was adopted out and his adoptive name was Allan.
When he wrote and published "The Raven" in 1845 he became famous immediately. It was the story of a man who is despondent over a lost love and is confronted by a mysterious and possibly imaginary character. It became very popular and was reprinted all over the world. He actually only made about $9-$15 on it and about $120 for a newly published edition. But, he had taken a $130 advance and so he made nothing on this famous poem.
On October 7, 1849, Poe died. He had booked passage on a steamboat headed for New York City on September, 27th. He was found in a gutter in Albany on October 4th and died 3 days later. To this day no one knows for sure what the full story of his death is. I think he drank himself to death. He had been an alcoholic and drank most of his life.

What a sad story. So many times authors and painters do not receive the proper recognition while they are alive.
