Has anyone posted here about the recent Miss Universe?

I'm sorry if I missed anyone's discussion about the recent Miss Universe pageant.
I'm watching Miss USA's full performance now, and she really nailed it. She's 28 years old - an age some people would consider "too old" for pageants - but she proved them wrong and ended up taking the crown.
Did you know that the Miss Universe pageant is a big deal in my country?
In the past, some hair salons would even offer free haircuts and other services whenever our representative won the title.
Sadly, Filipino pageant fans have gained a reputation for being "toxic fans" because of how some of them attack contestants and supporters of other countries online. I'm honestly a little embarrassed when I see that kind of behavior from my fellow countrymen.
But to be fair, not all Filipino fans are like that.
Personally, I'm happy for whoever wins as long as they deserve it. No gloating, no sour grapes.
I also felt bad for Miss Philippines because, according to reports, some members of her team left her after she failed to make the Top 16. If that's true, that's pretty heartbreaking.
Anyway, congratulations to Miss USA on her win!
Do people in your country follow beauty pageants, or are they not really a big thing there?

@LadyDuck Exactly. And it perpetrates the notion that "beauty" is determined by how you look in a swim suit or overly made up. And you get a few extra points for being able to say something intelligent for three minutes or so. Even as an evil "p****-craving white male" (the most evil of all humans), I know that beauty is multi-faceted, and cannot be determined in a contest like that. Would I let a daughter watch such a thing?

That one too, I was aware of. However, I was unaware of what was happening inside. I find it disappointing that our nation's bet was unable to place among the top candidates at the very least. But since Ms. USA, who won the title, is still Filipino, I'm happy for her and even proud of her for displaying her Filipina heritage. She could have done away with it so that she could be recognized as an American candidate, but she always attempts to highlight her half of Filipino culture.

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder not just a handful who judge.

I did not even know that Miss USA won the Miss Universe pageant! Very exciting.
Of course, I don't ever follow any of those pageants, but if you told me you were going to be participating, my eyes would be glued to the TV every minute of the event! And then you would get my vote to win.

@sol_cee But from what you lack in English speaking skills you make up for in beauty.

Just now
I very rarely watch beauty pageants now, but I'm amazed at how the contestants prepare for this kind of competition. I know it's not easy, and there are indecent offers and forms of abuse that women are likely to get.

I can’t join pageants. My English is broken
