Between this song and yesterday’s tune y’all might be wondering what’s going on with the hillbilly music lover. Good music is good music, period. It’s not my fault this isn’t a country song.
Here’s today’s song on my month-long list of favorite Academy Award-nominated songs.
The Trolly Song - Judy Garland
I can’t help myself. I’m a hopeless sucker for songs like this from the 40s. They may seem ridiculous by today’s standards, but those old musicals were magical.
Meet Me in St. Louis was centered around the 1904 World’s Fair. I haven’t seen it (or saw it when I was a kid and don’t remember it), so I don’t know if the invention of the ice cream cone was included (the ice cream cone was invented at the 1904 World’s Fair, if you didn’t know), but I do know that Liza Minnelli came to be because of this movie.
No kidding: Vincente Minnelli was the director of the film, and that’s where he met Judy Garland.
When I announced the countdown I used “Swining On a Star” from Going My Way, which was the 1944 Oscar winner over this song. Heck, I like ‘em both!

Recorded by Judy Garland

Somehow I've never gotten around to seeing this movie, and I don't know why!

@FourWalls Your mind comes up with the idea and you go with it. That's where you find it. At least that's how I get my book ideas.
I listened to the song and found I knew at least part of the words to it. I didn't know it was the name of the song.

It was a “necessity is the mother of invention” thing. The ice cream vendor ran out of bowls, so…..

It’s one that I didn’t know I knew, then I listened to it and said, “Oh, yeah!”

For the last three I’m looking for a definite slope, an I-don’t-know, and a probable nope. Not in that order. Then the top ten will make me wonder about you.
