Back to brick-paving soon

We’ve had a hot week here with temperatures up around the 40C (104F) mark. The next few days will be cooler and we’re looking at going back to finish some brick-paving for a couple who are having a tough time at the moment. The husband had a bad motor-cycle accident and is badly incapacitated at the moment. Four of us finished off a brick path for them and we still have a small circular area to finish off. It’s large enough for a small table and two chairs. When we were younger, Vince, his two brothers and the wives, did a lot of paving and other work for each other. We would have saved ourselves thousands of dollars. One brother is an engineer and all are very handy. The collage shows the driveway at my brother-in-law’s place that was put down in 2004. It still looks really good. It also shows Vince’s sister rolling an Easter egg down the slope. The fourth image shows our niece, another brother and our son, Damian. We are all a lot older now.

Hi Judy. I can't see the collage. Also, your first two paragraphs seem to have repeated themselves. When we first moved into this house 28 years ago, I put in a brick patio out back. It still looks good all these years later. I don't think I could do it now if called on.

@Tampa_girl7 Yes, now it's there. I wonder why it didn't show up the first time. Probably our local internet. It's been wonky for days now.

Thanks very much for pointing that out. I knew about the collage pretty quickly. Although the photos were all small in size, for some reason the collage often comes out over 3Mb and I forget to check. So then it doesn't load. I didn't realise the paragraphs had repeated so thanks again.

The pavement looks really nice. It’s such a blessing to have the skills to do things ourselves and save money.

Tradesmen nowadays don't want to do small, fiddly jobs so it can be hard to actually find someone to do it. It will be our good turn for the month.

I believe I recall you writing about helping this couple out with the brick laying. You were very sore after.

I have always admired you guys for the work you do. I can never think of laying bricks which work is handled by masons here. Kudos to you.

Somehow you did the first 2 paragraphs twice. Hope it cools off some for you. You could send some of that heat here

I thought that was a picture of the compacter. And, I must say, I have a flute-playing niece, too.

Please be careful in that heat. Maybe you could do the work early in the morning or late in the evening. That might be the best.

They WERE good times and there were a lot of them back in the day. There are still plenty of good times not so many involving 'work' any more.

We enjoy this sort of work but it's becoming too hard for us now. This is probably the last we'll attempt.

@JudyEv I completely understand that. We need to do a few things around home, and we know it will take us a while longer as we both have slowed down a bit.

@JudyEv That is so nice that you want to help that couple out. As we get older a lot of things are harder to do.

We won't be doing it for much longer. It nearly kills us but this is a small area. Probably our last hurrah.
