This scam involves the online markets on Facebook. These are not properly monitored and secured.
My friend ordered two pairs of shoes from an online vendor on the Swap and Sell market. She paid for the shoes and the postage quoted.
After waiting for a reasonable time, her order didn’t arrive. She tried to contact the seller on messenger, where they communicated, the profile of the seller was gone. She tried to search the profile on FB, it wasn't there.
She checked her bank account, the bank transfer was processed.
Her only recourse was to talk to her bank to trace where her money has gone and organise a refund. It will take some weeks to resolve the issue with her bank.
I still have to follow up her progress in recouping her money.

I thought I was being scammed several years ago when I bought a video I had been looking for on eBay. It turned out it was coming from further away than I had thought. Just took ages to get here.
I don't think I would ever order from one of those markets on FB unless I got a good review from a friend. I just can't put my money out like that.

Yes, some items come from overseas, i did order an item online that was mailed from the UK to Australia. It took a month. Same here, I”d be very careful.

well scammers are like that. Me I just usually got alternate account..
to log in if I think it is suspicious. So if it gets hacked I wont worry anything..
I have once been hacked but not that big deal cuz yea the alternate account works well

No. But my great-aunt said someone she knows had been scammed through facebook marketplace.

I was once sent a different item that would be too much of a hassle to return and get a refund on, but thankfully it wasn't that expensive, so I let it go and blocked the seller. That was probably the worst thing that ever happened to me in terms of online shopping.
