MRI Tomorrow night....

MRI Tomorrow night. I mentioned not all that long ago that I need to get an ultra-sound for my rib cage due to all these painful lumps there. I'm almost certain within that Discussion I mentioned about also needing an MRI for my spine. For quite some time now, I keep waking up with pain on the right side of my neck. To which it can sometimes give me headaches for hours. I've also been really sick almost every day. Not sure if that's related though. I did get a referral from a doctor to get an MRI. I managed to get an appointment for tomorrow night. I still need to book for the ultra-sound. It's quite booked there so will try again later. I am both nervous and kinda excited to be getting this done. Nervous because I've never had an MRI before. I'm not completely claustrophobic. I mostly get that feeling if someone is holding me and won't let me go. (this stems from abusive ex). But otherwise, I feel like I'm ok. I guess we will see. I'm kinda excited because I'm hoping whatever is causing me this pain can be found. (my opinion is posture - I know I need to improve on this but interested to actually see scans rather than guess work). It's getting a bit worse as in the pain is spreading elsewhere around my back. At the moment there is pain in my lower back. I can tolerate a lot but over time it becomes too much. So I am hoping something can be found. And hopefully something that we can work on fixing. I remember before my gallstones were found, it was hell trying to work out what was causing me pain and illness. Was worse when a doctor had the nerve to tell me it was all in my head! I am glad my ultra-sound scans showed him I wasn't making it up! I was wondering if anyone here has ever had an MRI? And what is was like? Thank you everyone. I will take care of other notifications soon. Bit behind again sorry.

@MrDenata I am just about to go to my scan now. I won't get the results for about 4-5 days.

I have not had an MRI, but I hope that you will be fine. I have had CT scans on my neck as well as my brain. They place your head into kind of a collar and then they fasen it so that it holds your head steady and in place so that they can get the proper images that they require. It seems to take a long time as they ask you not to move. I often will count, I count to pass the time, forwards, backwards, by 3's you name it, I count it until they tell me that they are just finishing up. I hope that you can come up with something to keep your mind busy during the testing.

@Juliaacv I have had a CT Scan before but that was for my stomach. That was a weird experience. The dude explained to me that when they inject the dye into you, it can make you feel like you've peed yourself. He wasn't wrong! I love your idea. I can try that out if need be. Thank you so much for sharing your story and for the suggestion.

You will be fine. My husband had an MRI last week, but he opted for an open one that is a lot better. If you are not claustrophobic you should have no problems.

@LadyDuck Thank you kindly for that Anna. I do feel as if I will be ok because I know that it's not enclosed. And from what I understand, there is a buzzer or something if there are any issues. I will just keep my mind busy just in case. I will be leaving soon to go to this appointment. I hope I can see the scans. I want to see my spine!

@VivaLaDani13 Correct, they give you a button to push in case you feel that there are problems. I know you will be safe. My husband could see the scan.

I hope you are able to get some answers. Living in pain is never a fun thing, especially if it's chronic pain. Exercising is a good way to help your body out, but if that is not always an option, even yoga or stretching can do wonders for pain! Good luck on your MRI. Make sure to let us know once you find out the results!

@VivaLaDani13 I’ve been having a lot of back pain lately (most likely from the way I abuse my body on the paintball field when I playing tournaments), so I started a stretching/yoga/exercise program that was recommended to me by my physical therapist. You are 100% correct, we can’t help fix our pain until we know what is causing the pain. Thankfully for me, it’s muscle related and not something wrong with my spine. I hope you are able to get answers soon!

@moffittjc I have my appointment on the 28th of this month. I am looking forward to seeing my doctor but hoping to get some answers from her as I cannot help this pain if I don't know what to do exactly. I can only do what I feel might be helping but I've no clue if it's making it worse either. Thank you. I will let you all know for sure I promise.

@moffittjc Can I ask, in what way is paintball hurting your back? Do you mean from being hit or certain positions you're holding yourself when hiding or even dodging the paintballs? I'm glad it's nothing to do with your spine. And thank you kindly.

I had my MRI last night. It is an easy test. If you keep your eyes closed through the procedure, you should be fine and not notice the claustrophobia. Mine took 45 minutes. The machine is very loud. They will give you earplugs and also cushion your head to muffle the noise even more. I hope they find the reason for all your back and neck pain.

@VivaLaDani13 Keeping my fingers crossed now about your next appointment . . . I hope they can give you some answers. Yah, it would be good to do an overall test, not just specific areas - the body is just a big working network of parts that works as a whole. Hoping they can make all your pains go away!!!

@much2say Hey! Yes the MRI is done. Though, I'd like to request a full body MRI or just something to check the whole spine. I feel that would be better as my lower right side of my back is not doing so good. Thank you so very much for being so kind!

Bless your heart, I pray the doctors will find the cause and be able to help you. I've had several MRIs and although I'm not claustrophobic, I usually get an atavan pill from my doctor before the test. But my advice is to close your eyes the whole time and remind yourself that you can see light at the foot end. But don't look! Keep us posted on your progress.

I'd appreciate it if people explained abbreviations on an international site. Not everybody all over the world knows what is used in English speaking countries. To answer your question: I was examined in this way some time ago. As I suffer from claustrophobia, I wasn't too happy when it was explained to me how it is done. I closed my eyes and forced myself to think of something completely different. I thought of the time when I lived in a different part of the country on the bank of a big river on which I paddled with my friends from the canoe club. I thought of wide open spaces and was able to distract my mind from the coffin like space I was in. I'm sure that you can find something, too, to distract your mind. Maybe the Australian Outback? Enough of wide open space there. :-)

@MALUSE Sorry about that. I don't even know what it stands for to be honest. I just know of it as a scan to check the body. I didn't even know that there was a chance for it to be known as something else in different parts of the world. I can only explain my story in the words that I know. I just assumed I guess as no one was confused in my last Discussion regarding it but I will remember for next time! Thank you for sharing your story! I am sorry you suffer with claustrophobia. I admire you for distracting your mind. Sounded like a beautiful distraction! Thank you for the suggestion too! Much appreciated!
