The countryside in India is full of mustard plantations. It is the primary source of mustard oil used for cooking. In Spring the mustard plantations become ripe. The mustard flowers are sold in the market and used to make mustard fry. Mustard fry is a lovely dish eaten with rice.

Did your mother take the picture this time? If so, she did a good job. I've never tried using mustard oil for cooking. I use olive oil when I need it in baking or frying.

thanks DE for the compliment for my mother. yes she did it. Regarding mustard oil it is more commonly used for frying fishes and making fish curry. There is an Indian fish called Hilsa which is cooked in mustard paste called ilish bhapa. For other vegetables I use soyabeen oil.

@DaddyEvil thanks DE there is another famous dish for bengalies it is called poster bora. It is made out of poppy seeds. The thing is grinded into a paste and then onion and chilli is added and it is fried in mustard oil. One will love the dish.

That's a lovely photo. Mustard grows wild here but I know some Italians pick it for their own use.

Yes, coincidentally I have eaten mustard today as 'shaak'. It is a bit bitter in taste.

It is the same in my country. Such kind of mustard plantations are quite common. Some of them become to be a tourism place since people like to take photos there

thanks Danna. the mustard flower is of mustard colour it is dipped in besan and some boiled potato and chilli is mixed and it is fried in mustard oil.
