Need a present for my mom

So a few days ago I was looking at linens online at Macys. I wanted to buy my mom a sheet set and a matching duvet set from a specific brand (Southshore Linens). They didn't have both in the size I wanted so didn't get them. I checked other websites and same issue. I guess that's out. Gotta figure out what else to get her as her birthday is on the 21st. I found a Coach wallet I really like but it is small, which won't work. While browsing at Macys I also decided to look at J.A. Henckels knives as hers are damaged and she needs new ones. I wasn't going to buy her knives as you don't gift knives to people. Not sure why but so they say. I just wanted to see what's available and let her know if anything is on sale. I didn't end up buying anything from Macys but now I see an ad here from this store and for those same items that I looked at... Now that's a targeted ad.

The superstition is that gifting knives to friends or loved ones cuts the bond between you. You can "sell" the friend or family member the knives, though. Just ask them for a penny to trade for the knives and that supposedly keeps the knives from cutting the bond. (Of course, I don't believe in superstition but I thought you'd find the reason not to gift knives funny.) I hope you find something nice for your mom. Pretty's birthday is on the 22nd but she always says she doesn't want any gifts for her birthday.

@lovebuglena We don't have the money right now for gifts and she'd shoot me if I suggested it. We're still waiting for my disability to be approved. Pretty is my daughter and she really doesn't want anything. I've gotten her gifts in the past after she said she didn't want anything and I hear about it for months afterward... I'd rather not make her mad when I don't need to.

It’s a bit funny I think. Do you gift her something anyway? Probably doesn’t apply in this case but some people say they don’t want anything but expect to get something, especially when it’s a husband and wife.

Give a penny with the knives and buy her the knives for a gift. It's something I"m sure she needs and will love.

The knife set will be pricey though so may have to pass on that.

@LindaOHio not necessarily. But it’s about finding something that I like that isn’t very expensive.

@lovebuglena Too bad. She's hard to buy for, isn't she?

Nope. Didn’t search for anything else yet. If I won’t find anything flowers and some lotto scratch-offs it will be.

You can gift her knifes if that is what she needs. I think you can gift people anything that they need.

I think I will just tell her about them and see if she wants them and she can get them herself. They will be pretty pricey. Over my budget. Will have to look for something else.

I hope you can get her what she needs and I think if its family and the knives are needed you can gift her with them. I did find an answer for you about the knives online - Before you give one, however, there's something you need to know: Gifting knives has long been considered bad luck. According to one superstition, a knife presented as a gift will sever the friendship between the giver and the recipient. The only way around this unfortunate outcome is to tape a penny to the knife.

That is interesting. Thanks for looking it up. Wonder why a penny and not say a dollar?
