A comedy of errors

I decided to make a batch of cookies to take to my cousin in a nursing home tomorrow. I found a gluten free recipe that looked good, so I got out all the ingredients, being careful to follow the recipe. I baked one batch and they seemed strange somehow. I looked and there on the counter was the milk I was supposed to add. No wonder they seemed too thick! I poured the milk into the batter and that was a little better. The cookies still seemed too puffy, so I heated the batter a little. Then they were too thin and spread too much. I refrigerated the dough for a while and this time like Goldilocks it baked just fine. I added some more sugar, white chocolate chips and pecans and they're actually rather yummy. Hope my cousins enjoy them. I don't think I'll try that recipe again.

It's amazing sometimes how much difference it can make if you leave out just one ingredient, especially if it's a vital one.

I always have a hard time getting homemade cookies just right. Today, though, I made chocolate chip cookies for my students. They loved them.

She seemed to enjoy them. It was so heartbreaking, though.

I have learned to be very careful with the recipes I find online. I am sure that many are not tested.

@1creekgirl - I use old trusted recipes that I found in books and I am using from years. The past month I wanted to prepare a classic Italian that we do for Fat Tuesday, I could not remember how we call it in Italian. It took a while to go through the pages of my (very) old book to find it.

Normally I put in too much liquid. Still, sounds like a good batch of cookies for dunking in tea!

Baking is so different from cooking, isn't it? You can throw this and that into a recipe for a stew, for example; but don't mess up the ingredients for cookies! I'm glad they turned out well for you.

I recently read that cooking is an art, but baking is a science. So true.
