Hey, didn’t I just use a Bill Murray movie yesterday? Yes I did, thanks for noticing! There’s one more Bill Murray movie on the list…that’s right, the theme from Meatballs! Just kidding. Here’s today’s song to keep you singing along. I’m Alright - Kenny Loggins Before the advent of MTV (and honestly, kids, they did show music videos once upon a time!), there were some movies that gave us a mix of visual and song so good that we could “see” the scene when the song played on the radio. To this day I hear this song and I can see that gopher dancing. And here we have the start of that 80s superhero thing known as “Kenny Loggins: Movie Theme Man.” Yes, go see a movie and hear Kenny Loggins! If it wasn’t this it was “Danger Zone” or “Footloose.” Between that and “Who Can Get Stevie Nicks to Sing With Him Today” (she duetted with him on “Whenever I Call You Friend”) he was pretty busy! No Stevie Nicks here, but he did get Eddie Money to sign along (including taking a lead line in the bridge) on this one. Very loosely based on Brian Doyle-Murray’s (hey, didn’t I mention him yesterday, too? ) teenage job as a caddy at a Chicago-area club, Caddyshack is a terrific low-brow comedy (seriously, we’re talking a Baby Ruth in the swimming pool?!) with an ensemble cast that featured Brian and brother Bill, Ted Knight, Chevy Chase, and show-stealer Rodney Dangerfield. Fun trivia: when this was edited for network TV viewing back in the 80s, Dangerfield’s character’s closing line, “Hey, everybody, we’re all gonna get laid!” was re-dubbed to “We’re all gonna take a shower.” One of the great movie theme songs and a classic comedy movie!
