Weird Corner

I have a closet with a door in the corner of my bedroom. Two of our cats(both males)keep coming in and going over to the closet(and latched)door and scratching at it. They are continuously interested in that area sniffing and scratching. I don't understand why. There must be something they are smelling that interests them. We have lived here for 20+ years and do not recall anything being spilled or other cats urinating or anything of the sort that would leave an odor or anything. I am wondering if these cats are just curious or if they smell something. Have you ever had this happen? Any thoughts?

Cats don't like closed doors. If you ever let them in there, they won't give you any peace unless you keep that door open.

Check for mice droppings around they may hear them scratching in the walls when you can’t.

I check for that occasionally and nothing. I think it is some smell that has lingered.

I have let them go inside and wander around. I don't let them in without someone watching them because I have my stuff in there.

I don't know. I've always had dogs. Usually if they're scratching at something, there's something there.

Exactly what I would suggest. Open the door and let your cats figure it out. Then they will know and your will know.
