Had a desire to learn Italian since my school days. Why Italian and not Spanish, French or German, one may ask. I was a student in a boarding school founded and directed by Italian missionaries of Milan. I had heard them converse in their language and liked it . But the desire remained dormant as I could never get any of them teach me their language. When I began to work in this charitable society which is supported mainly by Italians, the wish returned. And with the advent of internet it has become convenient to acquire a new language online. Today I started taking Italian lesson from classes available on YouTube. I hope to learn enough Italian by the end of this year to speak with the Italian visitors.

Good luck with this. Duolingo is also a good resource for learning a new language and it's free.

I agree with you. Duolingo is the best app to learn a new language. I'm using that app to learn english.

It's good to learn new language as it keeps your brain active. I keep learning languages whenever I can.. I am in Bangalore for the past eight years. I have picked up some Kannada. But this week I have joined spoken kannada classes going on in our apartment. Today was the first class. We have classes twice a week.

@franxav I know a bit of Tamil. Malayalam sounds a bit tough for me. Our Indian languages are quite rich. I would love to learn as many as I can. Even dialects are so interesting. During my growing up years and college days, I could talk fluently in Punjabi and Bengali.

I used to teach spoken English to Hindi/ Bengali students. Holding on to determination was essential in learning a new language. Hope I keep up my determination.

This is something to be happy about. I wanted to learn Japanese by myself nine years ago. I found teaching videos online, but I found that I was not willing to practice pronunciation. I have a timidity about opening my mouth to practice pronunciation. Then I gave up.

I believe timidity is a hurdle we must get rid of while learning a new language.
