Thought We'd Lost Ace

A couple of nights ago, Ace started behaving very oddly. My first thought was he's having a stroke. Thank goodness that he wasn't. It turns out Ace suffered a sudden onset of Idiopathic Peripheral Vestibular Disease. His Vet said it was similar to Vertigo in humans. The most likely cause is in inner ear infection, leading to swelling, and a loss of coordination and other symptoms similar to a doggy stroke. A shot of steroid and a long-term course of antibiotics should help Ace recover. This is the second time he's had this issue. A milder case struck him last June. I was afraid I was going to lose him when I first saw what was happening. He is at least 13 yo and maybe older. The good news is he's doing much better today.

I am very relieved. After 24 hours on the antibiotics, he's already showing signs of improvement.

I’m glad Ace is improving. My sisters dog Gilly had to have surgery last week. He’s about fourteen. She’s still worried about him.

I'm glad you enjoyed the books. I am working on finishing a novel and, when it's done, hope so publish a series of short reads set on Buzby Beach.

I’m so thankful he’s (relatively) okay. I HATE vertigo, and I can only imagine it’s terrible on a pet as well.

The steroids and antibiotics are helping. Sadly, at his age, full recovery is unlikely. He is moving much better now when he's on level ground.

From what I've learned, mini-Schauzers become prone to this vestibular infection as they age.
