Thought We'd Lost Ace

A couple of nights ago, Ace started behaving very oddly. My first thought was he's having a stroke. Thank goodness that he wasn't.
It turns out Ace suffered a sudden onset of Idiopathic Peripheral Vestibular Disease. His Vet said it was similar to Vertigo in humans. The most likely cause is in inner ear infection, leading to swelling, and a loss of coordination and other symptoms similar to a doggy stroke.
A shot of steroid and a long-term course of antibiotics should help Ace recover.
This is the second time he's had this issue. A milder case struck him last June.
I was afraid I was going to lose him when I first saw what was happening. He is at least 13 yo and maybe older. The good news is he's doing much better today.

I’m so thankful he’s (relatively) okay. I HATE vertigo, and I can only imagine it’s terrible on a pet as well.

Glad you took him to the vet. Is he a breed that is particularly prone to ear infections?

It's good that he's doing well today. It can be scary when an animal gets sick.

It’s sad when you begin to realize that it’s not going to be much longer.
